Pigtronix FAT Drive Tube-Sound overdrive guitar effects pedal is thick and juicy, dripping with touch sensitive overdrive that responds to every nuance of your playing style. Multiple cascaded gain stages enable the FAT drive to cover sounds ranging from slightly overdriven to rich saturation, all while retaining musical dynamics and the original character of your instrument.
FAT Drive effects pedal takes a futuristic analog approach to create complex crunch tones using CMOS clipping and a variable low-pass filter for tone shaping. Bringing the tone control all the way clockwise takes this filter completely out of the circuit for total transparency and robust low end. Rolling the tone control back smooths out the highs, leaving ample mid-range bloom and bottom end punch.
A Hi/Lo toggle switch brings additional versatility to the FAT Drive's wide-ranging palette of overdrive tones, altering the gain structure for enhanced crunch and soaring leads. The FAT Drive features true-bypass switching and runs fine on standard 9-volt power but ships with an 18-volt adapter for superior headroom, clarity and overall output.

This pedal is great for leads because it foes give you that fat tone that is somewhere between a thick overdrive and fuzz. You can even take this down to little or no distortion and use it almost like a boost or preamp. One thing I do not like about this pedal is the lack of the bottom end attack. There is plenty of bottom end in this bad boy but the pick attack on the lower strings get's sort of covered up giving you more of a muffled sound when trying to "chung", palm mute or whatever you wanna call it. This why this thing is no longer on my pedalboard, but I still don't want to get rid of it because it has plenty of good uses for specific tones.
When I was in the market looking for an OD pedal, I tried out just about every pedal they had in the store, and this one stood out the most! The FAT Drivw has a very nice transparent sound that goes great with any tubed amp. I play out of a Vox ac30, and this pedal goes great with it;awesome vintage tones. Great versatile pedal!
A big sound from a little box. Definitely warm and tube-like, in fact it leans a bit toward the darker end of the tone-spectrum. Not going to refer to it as completely transparent but I certainly think it compliments the Fender Strat/Marshall Class 5 combo I used. I suppose it's another answer to a Tube Screamer but adds some lovely lower-midrange to give a sense of girth, heft (add "Fat" synonyms here). Reminds me a bit of the OCD or Maxon OD808 but just a touch smoother than those units. It doesn't sparkle like the 808 or become over-powering as the OCD can. Like those units it cleans up quite well responding to volume changes and playing dynamics. The "More" button seems to increase output and trebles when switched upward, which can be nice if you need more gain and clarity (and I do). I really like how Pigtronix ships the pedal with an 18V power supply! Just as a note, I tested it with a 9V power supply. It certainly worked but was even darker in tonality (humbuckers take heed). Running it with 18V definitely adds more headroom and is strongly recommended. I think all in all it lives up to the name "Fat Drive", its quite musical and responsive.
