Dirty little box

By Jackson

from Cleveland, OH

Comments about Pignose Legendary 7-100 Portable Amp:

Pignose. Small. Portable. AC/DC. Storage. Durable. Metal handle. Quaint. Dirty little box! I bought this for one simple reason--I miss my old one I had in the '80s and '90s. I sold it for a song, and regretted it ever since, but I thought its use had no more place for me. I WAS MISTAKEN! Nothing will make a Telecaster sound more like Muddy Waters, Ry Cooder, etc., than this tiny and silly little solid state box. I use it as a standalone, and as a pre-amp, and this one I wouldn't give up for anything. It can provide very clean and quiet tone, or deliver massive slide dirt with the turn of the Pignose. Big sound. Little amp. Run through my Class A half-stack, I can raise the overall volume and tonal qualities of the Pignose Legendary about ten fold, which is enough to drive my Tele and other single coil guitars to the edge of Blues bliss. By itself, it's able to project tons of sound. Plus, I can carry it alone with a guitar, and maybe a wah pedal and/or Pod for effects, and I can play anywhere. Need more volume? Just mic it up or pre-amp out. I gave it five stars because of what it is. Pignose. Small. Portable. AC/DC. Storage. Durable. Metal handle. Quaint. Dirty little box! No other amp can do this at this price point, let alone a SS amp!

Little amp rocks

By jacqueslilavois

from Duarte, CA

Comments about Pignose Legendary 7-100 Portable Amp:

My brother actually owns a pignose portable amp. This amp has killer tone. It's very high quality and rugged. We've had ours for years and it's still in like new conditioin. I would recommend this amp as a practice amp especially if you travel. It can run off batteries or a power supply. We've even recorded using this amp and you can get a huge sound. You may want to use your own effects, distortion, as this only comes with one gain knob. The gain rises with volume, so you'd have to crank it to get overdrive.

It's a "Classic" for a good reason

By Chris

from Boston, MA

Comments about Pignose Legendary 7-100 Portable Amp:

I've had my Pignose for 22 years and it's still going strong. This amp is surprisingly versatile and has a very respectable sound for something this size. Eric Clapton used this little gem extensively on his 461 Ocean Boulevard album and on some Derek and the Dominoes tunes. Listen to "Let It Rain" and you're listening to a Pignose. It's the "Sony Walkman" of guitar amps and at this price I don't see how you can go wrong. It just has a volume knob so just crank it and use your guitar's volume to go from clean to dirty. The overdrive is pretty smooth and warm too.

What an AMP!!!

By Jim Gaither

from Ft. Worth TX

Comments about Pignose Legendary 7-100 Portable Amp:

I cannlt say enough about this little amp. It is wickedly rugged, absolutely cool-looking and is high on performance - ESPECIALLY for the money. What a bargain! Strong on simplicity - no controls, but you use the ones on your instrument or add a pedal or effect box. The AC Adapter adds to the performance flexibility. Really lasts well on batteries. The sound is totally unexpected from such a small enclosure. Everyone should own one of these, if only for practice or informal jam sessions. You will be surprised at the sound you can get out of it. Can't believe Guitar Center doesn't stock these at the stores!

They got this one right!

By James Steele jr.

from Phoenix AZ

Comments about Pignose Legendary 7-100 Portable Amp:

This little amp is a great practice amp for Classic Rock, and Blues type playing. When I practice Classic rock songs, by myself at home, I use this amp. The sound is just like on the albums, and when I play blues leads and licks to backing tracks on my computer, I use the Pignose. It is sensitive to playing dynamics, and will have you using your guitar's tone and volume controls to get different tones, also, opening it up for an open back amp sound, and closing it up for closed back. I found out that it is loud enough to disturb my neighbors at 11pm as I live in an apartment. I had to cut it back a little. All in all, Great practice amp and a purchase I am glad I made. It's not the only amp I own, but I am glad I own it.

Whether you`re a humbucker or single coil player, this little amp rocks! Get one! Go ahead and live "high on the hog"! I`ve had one for twenty years to pre-amp my Fender Reissue Bassman Amp. Great practice amp

By Ed

from Baltimore, MD

Comments about Pignose Legendary 7-100 Portable Amp:

Bought this amp a while back because the legendary FRANK ZAPPA played with it on some studio tracks and on the Mike Douglas show. It's great to record individually; It's great as a bedroom amp for a real overdrive/fuzz tone sound. It is solid state, and it does have a cheap speaker -- but this is by far the most unique "cheap speaker" you will ever hear. Used as a preamp, it doesn't have any problems, but without additional effects (EQ being a prime example) you may have trouble in your band's mix. Used for heavy metal, particularly metal involving palm muting, it does not do well by itself -- it's just not that kind of amp. But combined with a good overdrive, it can get really nasty -- other kinds of basic distortion do well too. It also runs on 6AA batteries, and the battery life is absolutely superb. I've frequently left it on by accident without killing it on your standard Duracells or Energizers. I'd recommend this amp to anyone, it's too cheap not to have in your arsenal.

love it

By mike

Comments about Pignose Legendary 7-100 Portable Amp:

just received this on wednesday from gc. today is saturday ... having a blast! this is a great little practice amp to have in my living room. not too loud and you can get some great dirty tone with it. is it very versatile? no. but if you want a portable practice amp that gets good blues tone then you will be very happy with this amp. looking forward to bringing this with me on vacations and traveling. also, this will be a great amp to bring along for small jam sessions without having to lug around a blues deluxe. the only thing i wish it had was a headphone output that would cut the speaker when you plugged i the headphones. but i see there are mods that can do that. love it. very cool product.

Comments about Pignose Legendary 7-100 Portable Amp:

You aren't tethered to a power supply/need for electricity. You can just run it on the six AA batteries and be amazed at the sound you get!. If you want, you can grab an adapter and plug it in, as well. A very good college buddy had one years ago and it was cool then. That was a LOT of years ago, and now I have my own - it's STILL cool. In fact, the little guy has more balls than my first college roommate did! Looks good. Sounds good. Reasonable price. Many adaptations. You can play your revered Gibson LP through the Pignose and everything just fits.

And this little Piggy makes noise!

    By Mad

    from Puyallup, WA/Portland, OR

Comments about Pignose Legendary 7-100 Portable Amp:

This amp is great. It's loud enough to be satisfying. I love how you can open up the amp to create different sounds. It's simple and lightweight. It has a pretty standard electric guitar sound, making it good for anyone of any style to practice on. I play anything from black metal to classic, and the tone can work for it all. No interference, no random buzzing, no input problems: all of which have been problems I've had on previous amplifiers. Definitely worth the price! And it looks really cool too. Especially next to a green/rosewood/black American Standard...

Comments about Pignose Legendary 7-100 Portable Amp:

First off I'm an old school Sound Engineer. This little Amp does it all. It has so many uses even though it is so simple. It will teach you to learn to use the controls on your guitar better. Unlike several modeling amps this little piggy takes most stomp boxes GREAT!! Maybe he best feature is its Pre Amp Out which allows you a line into the PA or it will blow you away going into the input of your tube amp giving you a realist boost over any stomp box. At low volumes using the proper guitars pickups sparkling cleans. and this Piggy was made to be dirty. Best tool to have as a back up. Great traveling amp. Battery Life is goes a long way just get rechargeable and carry a small battery recharger in its little closed stash compartment. I don't recommend using the power cord. I'm sure there are some youngsters that differ with me but the old schoolers that like it raw and understand how to dial in their tone without playing with mods will dig this amp/fuzz box. If you have a nice clean tube amp but want some growl and extra volume pre amp this baby into your amp. I have several pedals and over drives and most all become thin bringing up the volume compared to this. it just gets thicker and more meaty as you increase the vol. My buddy are blown away with what comes out of the PA with this little Piggy and just a couple of effects my 86 RAT with this work well together.

I've been using pignose amps for over 25 years with my harps. However, the use I find the best is when I take it out of my waterproof ammo can, while camping on the bank of a river somewhere and plug in my portable CD player or cell phone to let the music flow.
