The Peterson Stomp Classic Strobotuner is a pedal tuner that combines the timeless 'mojo' of the legendary Conn ST-11 Strobotuner with the most desired features in a pedal tuner to date!

This latest generation tuner from Peterson runs circles around my old Peterson VS-1. It's faster, and the display is far more steady, which, combined with vastly improved note detection circuitry has resulted in extreme accuracy so good that I now need to intonate all my guitars all over again using this new tuner. Best of all, my old eyes can easily see this tuner's display on the floor without my glasses, whether out in the bright sun or dark stage. It's got all the extra whizzbang features I could hope for, such as XLR DI ouput, etc.; and potential for more features thanks to the USB port. The librarian software is not yet available, and while the hardware potential is certainly there, any possibility to use this pedal as a "sound card" in the future is still in the murky prophecy zone and may not happen. Still, as the most extremely accurate pedalboard-friendly tuner available with true-bypass or active monitoring and/or DI-out, this tuner cannot be beat.
I don't know why I've had so much trouble finding a tuner that works for me. I've tried a few! Boss - the TU2 and the 15, Korg, Yamaha...all well reviewed and popular. It wasn't until I tried the Peterson Classic Strobotuner that I found the perfect fit. The display is easy to read and steady. You really feel like you're locking in on the note. I play 12 strings, baritones, and open chord tunings and it services them all. Even the "sweetened" tunings seem to be working - something I had doubts about. Thing's built like a tank. Must weigh 5 lbs. I had a problem with the battery connections in the unit and customer service was right on it. Had a new one in a week. I like these guys. I love this tuner.
I bought this tuner because my other tuners were lacking in different areas. One tuner kept resetting the pitch to something other than A440 and the others were just not accurate enough as I would have to retune by ear after using them. It was a toss up between this and the Turbo Tuner ST 200. Which by the way is not sold here or at any big box music stores. I went with the Stomp Classic because of its high defenition screen that is capable of displaying the level of accuracy that is advertised. I will say that this is a "stobe-style" tuner. It is not a true strobe but I'm sure most of you are aware of this. I have used (not owned) Korg Pitchblack and TC Electronic Poly Tune and have to say that I would choose this one over the other two. This tuner seemed more responsive and of course the display is much more high def. The Korg and TC have only a handful of LEDs to display the tuning. The Stomp has more than I could count (though it is LCD i believe not LED). When I hold a note, it will quickly follow the note as I bend or vibrato to give you an idea of its responsiveness. I dont need any of the other features and I havn't used them. I simply use it's silent tuning function to A440. It does not introduce any hum or noise that I have encountered with other amps, even with a loud 100 watt Marshall Super Lead Plexi. Also, there is no audible pop or click when actuating the tuner. The screen is bright and easy to read on the floor. The symbol indicating a flat or sharp is rather small, though I dont see why this would be an issue unless your guitar drifts a whole half step out of tune which it shouldn't. On the surface level (I can't speak for the inside) everything seems to be made of metal and rubber. The only plastic I can find is the 9VDC jack which is recessed inside the pedal a little so it is not vulnerable and also on the battery housing that is hidden under the footswitch itself. Many parts of this pedal are made of metal where most would use plastic. I have not owned or used this pedal for an extensive amount of time so I can not attest to its durability, though it seems very sturdy and I have no doubt that it will hold up. Its heavy and bulky, though I dont have a problem with that. I carry around a full stack, a Roland RE-201 Space Echo, and two Strats so I dont think a bulky pedal is going to weigh me down anymore. If I was given the chance to improve on this pedal, I would request that Peterson make a bare bones version of this pedal without the DI to cut down on cost and maybe use the extra space for a slightly bigger screen.
