Overview

With double the processing power, models and effects of competitive modeling amplifiers, the VYPYR dramatically redefines the power and scope of modern guitar amplification. VYPYR amplifiers are based on powerful 32-bit, floating-point SHARC processors that enable highly detailed, accurate modeling as well as vastly enhanced flexibility and features than ever before available in guitar amplification.

Featuring 24 amp channel models--both the clean and distorted channels of 12 popular amps for the first time anywhere--plus 11 editable preamp "stomp box" effects and 11 editable post-amp "rack" effects with dual-parameter control. Players can use up to five effects simultaneously. When used with the optional Peavey Sanpera foot controller, the possibilities further expand from 12 in-amp presets to 400 programmable presets, with an on-board looper and more. The VYPYR also acts as its own computer audio interface, with a built-in studio-quality USB 2.0 output on most models that is recognized by computers as an audio device. The entire six-model VYPYR Series features the easy-to-use Peavey WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface.

So I just got this amp, and I must say, this is the BEST sounding amp I have EVER heard, or had the pleasure to play on. I Have only found a few cons to this amp, mostly Pros. This amp has ALL of the tones you could ever need, PLUS. This thing can go from the Cleanest cleans, to the MEANEST of means, and ALL in betweens. Every amp model is purely GOLD, maybe not 100% as accurate as the individual heads, but 99.999% in my oppinon, and for the price, you better not complain! I have got some acoustic tones out of mine and Dimebag tones, to Hendrix, to Gary Rossington (Lynyrd Skynyrd), and ACDC to Modern Metal bands. I mostly play Metal and Rock, but the cleans and 'Tweeds' and Twangs are just as clear and powerful as the metal tones. All of the stompbox effects are Stunning, and edit capable. So are the Rack Effects. Plus built in Delay and reverb that does NOT take the place of your Effects, INGENIOUS! 2 modes of all amps as well. It has the Digital tone, and the Tube power, which combines VERY well in this case. The tubes only take about 1-2 minutes to get warm enough for full tone, not the 3 the manual says. Most other Tube amps take 5-10 minutes. I am running a Dean Razorback v 255 with a Dimebucker, so I cant speak for the tone through ALL guitars and pickups, but Im sure this will still amaze you no matter what you use. If you get the Sanpera Pedals it opens up whole new worlds of fun, and simplicity. One thing I was afraid of was that I would need a Noise Suppressor because of tube amps fame for MASSIVE feedback, but so far except for a little buzz on hi Gain, no feedback on me. Recording on this is simple to, take a Regular usb 2.0 cable, plug it in to the amp and into you computer, and open up your favorite recording program, and record! My amp came with a Demo of Peavey's Revalver MKII recording software. The Volume levels are great too! It has great bedroom levels at like levels .5-1.5, after that it gets into good practice levels, then after that Small Gig levels, like bars and such. It also features an auxillary input, and a headphone jack. Now the 3 cons I found: 1. The Weight, it weighs a TON 2. The Cab extention is a 16ohm requirement, not a Very common usage of ohm cabs 3. The looper takes a little getting used to and it is ONLY usable with the pedalboard, my advice when recording the loop is to turn the volume pedal down a tad, because when you play it back, it can over power your current playing at max volume. Other than those few cons, this is an INCREDIBLE buy, definately worth it. Get the pedal if you can to.

Blew up a hard drive

By duke

from west allis wi

I bought a VT50 took it home and it sounded muddy Tried out the Peavey vypr 120. Tones are great you can get the sound you want out of this. Yeah its loud enough to gig with I had a hard drive destroy itself across the room from the vibrations Only Cons I can think of is Forget about software. It either doesnt work or you need a usb to midi cable to update. No worries I put a MFX pedal infront when i want to play with presets

Great Amp

By Tommy

from Indianapolis, IN

I got this amp about a month ago and all i can say is that i love it. Its great for any sounds you need including clean for an acoustic-electric. Its also great because you can play your mp3's through it. So bottom line is that it is an excellent amp and i highly recommend it.

Vypyr 120

By Dan

from Bellingham, Wa.

Just got this a few days ago and this amp really sounds great, like a tube amp I bought in the '70s. Crystal clear and responsive, The reverb sounds superb as all the effects do. Bought a sanpera 1 also but cannot get the universal wah effect to work as described in manuals, not sure if it is the pedal or the amp, so I bought a seperate wah pedal... Stll have to give this amp 5 stars because it really really sounds good and has so many features.

Great Combo

By Dave

from Victorville Ca

This is the combo amp of all combo amps. I had a JC-120 amp for clean sound. I thought I was going to keep it until I got this monster out of the box and played it for a few days. The Vypyr 120 can go from pure clean sound to a grueling crunch with a click. I bought the sanpera II. The combo will blow you away I don't care how long or what you have played. I am completely impressed with this amp.I have a Line 6 Spider Jam. I play the spider through the peavey. I only use the spider jam for the drum machine now. Oh, and I did sell my JC-120.

Amazing Amp

By Paul Larson

from Topeka, KS

I've never been a huge fan of Peavey products, even when I worked in a store that sold tons of Peavey gear each year. However, when I tried this amp at Guitar Center I was blown away! I had arrived planning on purchasing either a Egnater Renegade or a Bogner Alchemist but playing the Vypyr 120 with tubes changed my mind. The Egnater and Bogner are great amps but the Vypyr has so many more options, sounds good, and is an absolute blast to play. Most importantly, every amp and stomp box model is very useful, and it is super-easy to get a great tone within seconds. My only hope is that it lives up to Peavey's reputation for making bulletproof products that last forever! A hardy thanks to Hartley Peavey and his engineers for this amazing product!

wow. real tubes and effects in one.

By bob

from fort worth, tx

Anyone who has bashed these amps is either an idiot or doesn't read the specs. this amp is a all tube amp...6L6 tubes. I own a jsx and egnater and this amp is just as good but with effects. It has all the compression of the tube amp. the only thig you might need is an extra cab to get that full 4 12 sound that some people think makes a tube amp sound better. Maybe? but not my opinion. You shouldn't need four twelves to make you feel better or your amp sound better.

Great tube amp for the money

By dodomaster

from Germantown, MD

Used to have the Line 6 212 Spyder II 150 watt combo amp. My son uses that now and I have happily purchased this Vypyr 120 Tube and I am pleasantly surprised. No, this does not blow away all the other tube amps (Mesa Boogie, Marshall, etc.), but for the money and for what you get, its pretty amazing. I still need to get the optional foot switch to take advantage of the built-in looper so there is more to love. I'm sure I'll get all the tube purist bashing me but to each his own i guess...the price is right, the sound is right, and it is pretty loud - easily capable for small to medium gigging. Great flexibility with the stompboxes and effects...nice clean sounds...this definitely blows the Line 6 Spider III series away, even the Bogner tube series...and I have been playing for over 20 years.

Not so good of a tone...

By Dave Sod

from Grand Rapids MI

I went out and tried a few amps today and wanted to play on the new vypyr series to see how they sounded. Not so pleased with the tone. I liked the line six modelers better. I think peavey needs to try to play catch up for a while. I say wait a little bit and try them out when they come out with a new line. I think that the tube modelers sound good. Great as a matter of fact. However, nothing compares to the real deal... Yet....
