When I first started to play guitar, I had an old Peavey 10W practice amp from the early 90's. I did some research and found that Peavey isn't that bad at making amps. In fact, they are really good. I decided to take advantage of Trade In Trade Up, and got this amp. I played it at the store and it sounded better than the Fender Frontman or the Line 6 Spider IV. I was impressed. I got a big discount from trading in the old amp and plugged it in as soon as I got home. Two of my neighbors called to ask what was going on. Man, that thing is loud. After about a week, I decided to read the instructions. There were soooooooo many more effects than I previously thought. It turns out that there are two "parameters" for EACH effect that you can edit. I went to town with all the effects and the delay/reverb. I spent the time to program all of the presets. I am still just blown away by this amp. One thing that annoys me is that it is hard to see the effects that are placed below the knobs. It is kind of awkward to lean over to see them, especially when you are holding a guitar. I sort of fixed this by putting the amp on top of the box. The box is really sturdy when you tape the top shut and put it on its side. Don't read any reviews that say that the amp didn't work. My best guess is that they were too impatient to learn how to use it. It really pays off to take the time to read the manual on the CD and figure out how to use it well. You wont regret it.

I went to guitar center and my friend Jay and i tested it out. he took his Les Paul and I took my SG. they sounded great on it with the effects. he bought one and i bought one. when we got home, we plugged them in. his worked. mine did not. they thing would not even light up. so now im stuck with this broken amp that i gotta take back and get a new one. if i were you, i would recommend getting the Line 6 Spider 15 watt. way better. and way better quality. i will admit though, the sound on that Peavey was amazing. they are just very low quality. i would also recommend getting a good warranty.

OK for the price

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I haven't played in some time. I'm Amazed how far amps have progressed since. This thing is quite a bit louder than 15 watt amps of the past. It has nice sound. Nothing spectacular but good. I do like the different amp and effect settings. Pretty cool. I only wish you could choose more than one at a time, like on the Vypyr 30 on up. Overall good amp for a budget player.

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I got this amp a couple of months back and it still amazes me till this day! looking at it for the first time kinda of intimated me but do not be scared of all the settings and the light show. All the effects are actually really good. i love how you can change things up to how you like it. the cromatic tuner is fine it does the job! the only thing i didnt like about the amp is that the fabric/metal covering the front rattles abit when played loud but i make nothing of it. overall this amp is awesome i would reccomend it to anyone looking for a practice amp.

15 Watt Monster

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I thought this amp was going to be lame since it was 15 watts, but I was so wrong. The distortion is amazing and so is the clean setting. The effects are great too. Octaver is the only one I dont like but the other ones are great. Reverb is really nice. The EQ is really gorgeous. Sounds like an amp legends use, but its just for beginners or back up amps. I love it, You should get it.

Awesome amp

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I just got this today. I pulled it out looked at it and thought wow look at all the effects this baby has. I plug it in start going through all the seting, seting presets, messing with the effects and i realized that this is worth way more. It is a little cheap, but then again you are not really going to be playing gigs with it. it is a practice amp. The only thing i didnt like was that when the volume got past four, which is pretty loud, it didnt really get louder it just shook more. and the chromatic tuner is complicated and wont register my b, or high e string, but other than that it is an awesome amp.

Excellent Amp!!

By G. Chambers

from Alpine, CA

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp sounds GREAT! It outperforms every 15W amp in its price class, including the Line 6 Spider IV. I was in Guitar Center looking for a nice new guitar when I tested a few on this amp. I then tested one on the 15W Spider IV (which costs the same as this amp), but immediately gave it the thumbs down. After a few minutes, I plugged the same guitar into the Peavey amp. I then saw that it was not that the guitar sounded bad, but that the Vypyr amp just sounded much better! I then knew that this was the amp I wanted. While the Spider has <10 effects and 4 channels, the Vypyr has over 12 and 24 channels for the same price and wattage! No cons or downsides I can think of; great sounding, durable, amp for a great price! Best bang for your buck at $99.

One Of the Best Amps you will Own

By Javier Martinez

from North Bay Village, Florida

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

If you are a Beginner, and looking for an affordable amp, this is the right amp for you. It Comes with 12 effect, 12 amps and even a built in tuner. How much more can you get. Although the Tuner is ok, I recommend you getting a good Tuner. Also one more thing, if you want great sound, get a good guitar cable.

Awesome Little Amp!

By Shane

from Tennessee

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 15 15W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I wanted a smaller sized practice amp because my twin reverb was so much of a hassle to lug around everytime some of my buddies wanted to get together to jam. I tried the line 6 spider first and thought I had made my decision, until I tried this puppy out. I could not believe what I was hearing coming out of this amp in the store. I've had it for 2 days now and haven't even begun to touch on what all it will do. Totally opposite from what I was expecting and I can get the tone pretty freakin close to my twin...GREAT AMP!
