Overview

With double the processing power, models and effects of competitive modeling amplifiers, the VYPYR amp dramatically redefines the power and scope of modern guitar amplification. VYPYR amplifiers are based on powerful 32-bit, floating-point SHARC processors that enable highly detailed, accurate modeling as well as vastly enhanced flexibility and features than ever before available in guitar amplification.

Featuring 24 amp channel models--both the clean and distorted channels of 12 popular amps for the first time anywhere--plus 11 editable preamp "stomp box" effects and 11 editable post-amp "rack" effects with dual-parameter control. Players can use up to five effects simultaneously. When used with the optional Peavey Sanpera foot controller, the possibilities further expand from 12 in-amp presets to 400 programmable presets, with an on-board looper and more. The VYPYR also acts as its own computer audio interface, with a built-in studio-quality USB 2.0 output on most models that is recognized by computers as an audio device. The entire six-model VYPYR Series features the easy-to-use Peavey WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface.

This amp is just insane. I originally had the 15W version and then I started playing in a band, so I needed more power and I moved up to this one. Getting this 100-Watt amp was one of the best choices Ive ever made. Tone: I tried this amp first in the guitar center stores and I thought the tone was good. Then I took it home and realized that its more than good: its amazing. For me, a player of metal, this tone reaches very good distorted and clean channels. If you get the chance to play this in a quiet area: try using the "K-Stein" dirty channel for good leads and the "6505" dirty channel for a good rhythm sound. For clean channels try using the "Twn" clean model. Ive been searching for a good punk rock sound, which I will find eventually, but the best thing Ive found so far is the dirty "Twn" channel. This amp is so customizable, though, that you can spend hours searching for tones. Aesthetics: Very clean-looking amp. A bit heavy, but what do you expect with a 100W combo? Looks the same as when I bought it, even though its been rammed into many things while taking it back and forth to jam sessions. Personal Experience: I have had no problems with this amp. I own an Ibanez RG2EX2 and an Ibanez RG5EX1. The first has a V7/V8 pickup setup and the other has The INF3 and 4 and the INFS3 inbetween. The V7/8 are very bass-y, but I can tweak the amp to make it sound just right. The INF3/4 are have a lot of highs and are very crisp, which is perfect for the amp. A side note: The record out is very good. No buzz at all. The only bad thing is that is a direct out so it is not influenced by the volume pot, so it is a bit quiet, but that can be made up for by using the "amplify" feature in Audacity. I assume other programs have similar features, but I cannot say for sure because I haven't tried them. Other than the heaviness, I have had absolutely no problems with the amp. Get it NOW.

New to amps. I thought this one would be loud and fun. After printing off the 400+ pages of manuals... found it to merely be dissapointing. I just got lost in the myriad of settings... it was frustrating to just to try to find a clean channel to plug into... to add insult to injury, the amp does it's own light show where all the buttons begin to calydescope like a christmas tree... hey, just give me an amp that I can plug and play anyway...

Wicked Tones

By Tanner

from Indiana

I picked this amp up at my local guitar center for $350. Compared to other 100 Watt amps in this price range, this amp is superb! So far, I have had no problems with it freezing up like some reviews have said. The analog distortion is the main reason I chose this amp; I have not been disappointed. This amp can produce some very heavy tones. I play metalcore and the 6505 works perfect for the tone I want. The mid tones and clean tones are decent, but not the best compared to tube amps and some lower wattage amps. The only reason I gave it a 4 star rating is because of the Foot Switch. This amp is advertised as having a loop station. Sadly, the loop station only works if you purchase on of the Sanerpa foot switches priced at $99.99 and $199.99. No where in anything I read prior to purchasing this amp mentioned this. Luckily I already have a loop station. Other than Peavey wanting to score an extra couple of Benjamins on the foot switch, the amp is amazing.

Amamzing

By Derek

from Rockfall Connecticut

It's ideal for anyone who wants a portable combo that can crank out MAJOR sound. Lots of built in effects, studio quality sound, and easy to figure out. Perfect for practicing in your room at night without disturbing anyone, but anywhere past two on the master volume, and the windows in your house are going to break. GREAT sound and overall, an amazing amplifier for a good price

wicked

By Ben

I bought this amp around labor day 2010 and it is brute. I play in a death grind band so I upgraded to this from the 15w version and it is a true baby eater. I can get blues, death, jazz, classic rock, brit metal and anything else. It's really loud if you just play in your bedroom and it's good for realitively small gigs. however, some of the amp models (mainly kstien and jsx) have a hissing sound and especially with the boost or tubescreamer effects, but nothing a good noise reduction pedal wont fix. Overall amazing amp for the price, I highly recommend it, buy it.

I purchased this amp after trying several amps for about 6 months. Almost bought the line 6 which I liked but it wasn't even close when I tried this amp. Even beter the sound quality at hi volumes is awesome. I was shooting for somehting to rattel my neighbors cage, it didn't just rattel it it melted it.

Peavey Vypyr 100

By Marcelo

from Puebla, Mexico

I̴ve had this amp for about 7 months now, and every time I play with it, never ceases to amaze me. First of all, this bad boy is LOUD, but it always keeps the tone the way you want it, without getting fuzzy or whatever at loud volumes. Works perfectly either with passive or active pickups, and, without a doubt, it will make your guitar playing shine. All built-in amp models are awesome, for both beautiful clean sounds and brutal distortion, especially the "Rec" and "650" for high gain settings. The TransTube distortion is something you won̴t believe, I mean, it does sound and feel like an all-tube amp distortion!! Another feature I like of this amp is the tuner. It is really easy to tune your guitar, and it doesn̴t take long. Whatever tuning I need, I can get it with this decently accurate tuner. About the built-in "stompboxes" and "rack effects", everything is great, because it has such a deep control of every single setting, and it all sounds very real and smooth. I don̴t really play much with the built-in stuff, because I mainly use my pedalboard, but I am confident that I can rely on the amp̴s effects if needed. Also, the USB dock on this dude is totally pro quality. Our band recorded all the guitars for our demo with my amp, and it is truly a high quality recording. So, having reviewed pretty much everything about the Vypyr 100, I have nothing left to say. Only that I absolutely recommend this amp to any guitarist out there who̴s looking for great tone, tube amp distortion, amazing control, and overall high quality guitar amplification.

Good sound/some recording issues

By GregC

from Anniston, AL

Purchased this amp a month ago. Right out of the box using the presets I was tearing it up. The amp has so many different styles to choose from, certainly you will find yours. The only thing I don't like is that when you connect it to your computer using the USB cable the amp speakers are cutoff. The issue with the USB is that when recording (I'm using Acid Pro7), you cannot monitor your amp, and must wear headphones to hear what your playing. If you use the aux-out connection directly into your soundcard, you should be able to monitor the amp thru your recording software. I believe the USB problem comes from the fact the USB doesn't directly run thru the soundcard, therefore it can't be monitored. Would liked to have seen this amp with a typical Line-out features instead of the auxiliary output, or at least the ability to keep the amp speakers on while recording with the USB.
