GREAT sub for the PRICE!!

Comments about Peavey SP 118BX Single 18" Passive Subwoofer:

Really, I would have gave this purchase 5 stars IF I was only rating it on SOUND, and it does sound great providing you run the RIGHT amp with it. This sub is an 8 ohm, 18" Pro Rider driven box that has a BEAUTIFUL coating on it. It weighs in around 100 pounds, so ease of moving them around is excellent. I first matched one up with a propriety box containing a single 15" speaker and a 1" horn, and WOW!!! The DEPTH of the box allows some deep, rich low frequency to woof!! I used a QSC 3402 for the sub to get the most of the 600 watt at 8 ohm (continuous) power rating. The depth and width of the box allows me to throw my old Peavey SP-7's on top with peace of mind the SP-7 would be on a stable platform. I had to tweak the active crossover in my FOH rack to get the results I liked, and POSSIBLEY a PAIR of these below a single SP-7 may be what I need to do. So, WHY the four stars? First, they have those darned torx head screws to secure the speaker to the box. A MAJOR "no-no" in my book, because who normally has access to a torx head screw driver in a pinch? OK, yes, I do, but it's trip to the hardware store for me to get those changed out. Second, there is only ONE Neutrik connector, and TWO 1/4" jacks on the jack panel. I would prefer TWO Neutrik jacks in an 8 ohm box, so I can link 2 boxes together, and one or NO 1/4" connection. LASTLY for personal taste, recessed handles, and rubber feet on one of the sides of the box in case you wanted to lay it on it's side. OVERALL these are EXCELLENT boxes for the money, and I DEFINATELY recomend them, and intend to buy a few more in the near future!!
