Brilliant Idea

Comments about Peavey Rockmaster 5-in-1 Electric Guitar Pack:

This solves three problems that beginners face - tuning, getting an amp, and possibly playing without disturbing others. I haven't put it through the ringer, so I'm not sure how well made the pre-amp and tuner are. The switch seemed suspect - but if it keeps working, it's very handy. It plays well and sounds good through an amp also. The neck plays well, the finish is nice, and the guitar looks good with a sparkly silver finish. If it holds up (tuner/pre-amp, etc) then it's a good value and a brilliant idea.

Comments about Peavey Rockmaster 5-in-1 Electric Guitar Pack:

This is an awesome deal for learning to play. It comes with an electronic tuner and pre-amp (3.5mm headphone connector) built in. Uses a 9v battery (not included). Along with the ear buds, picks and strap, you can start learning immediately. I like the pre-amp and earbuds because it's quiet to play. I don't feel as self-conscious. It has a standard 1/4" amp jack too. The guitar feels well made. I'm sure after I get some experience I'll be able to tell the difference between it and a $300 guitar. But, it doesn't feel like a toy. It's heavy and solid. It has all the mechanical adjustments for professional setup. The tuner works well. (I find the tuner works better if you quite all the strings, then pluck the string you want to tune. Don't be in a hurry to pluck the next string while the first one can be heard.). It's a full-size guitar. It has the standard 25-3/4" distance between nut and saddle bridge. The neck is the standard 1-11/16" width at the nut. It has 21 frets. Overall length is 38-1/2". The body seems smaller compared to a full-size guitar. But, that makes it easier to sit on the coach and play. At the widest point it's 12". At the narrowest, it's 8-1/2". The thickest part of the body is 1-3/4". (It feels hefty.). I was thinking of using GuitarSmith with Playstation/3 to learn to play. But, I found the free "Tux Guitar" software for my computer. I'm playing with that first. It's complicated software, but some youtube videos show how to use it to learn to play. Maybe the only downside is that it comes with no instructions. It's not hard to find the 9v battery compartment on the back, or how to use the tuner. But, it's natural instinct to feel lost without a "quick start" guide of some kind.
