Comments about Peavey Rage 258 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

I've had this amp for 3 years now and this thing is a trooper. The cleans on it are pretty good and the distortion is okay, but lacking power. I used a BOSS Metal Zone distortion pedal on this amp and the tone that is put out when the EQs are dialed in are amazing. I use a Schecter C-1 FR Sustainiac with an EMG 81 on the bridge and the tones with that amp is amazing. It lives up to the price and quality. It has been used many times at outdoor and indoor performances and has not failed me. I played twice with the local marching band at a concert outdoor and indoor and both times the amp was very powerful. I use the Schecter C-1 FR S, Ibanez Gio, Fender Squire Strat 20th anniversary, and a Jay Turser acoustic guitar. All of the guitars tones fit perfect with this amp wherever and whenever I use it.

    Good for Begginers

    By John Rohlf

    from San Antonio, Tx

Comments about Peavey Rage 258 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

I got the older model of this as my first amp. i had an Ibanez Gio and as it being my only experience with guitar amps, I loved it. now I have a bit more experience and I see a few flaws. First of all, it had no reverb. Reverb is a very crucial effect in my opinion. Second off, the amp's overdrive wasn't all that impressive. at low settings, the amp was very warm, no matter what the equalization. At high settings, it was screechy and high, again no matter what the EQ's at. The EQ is okay, but unless you had the treble from 7 to 10, the amp was quiet and muffled. It's okay for anyone beginning guitar, but I'm going to upgrade.

    Great amp

    By Zachary Parrucci

    from Fairmont, West Virginia

Comments about Peavey Rage 258 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

I love this little amp. Peavey's sound quality is unbeatable. I use this amp at my youth group where I play lead electric. I have to mic the amp due to it's low wattage but, it still sounds great. Full chords sound great through the clean setting. The overdrive isn't bad either. The vintage sound of my Epiphone Les Paul goes great with this amp. At lower volumes, the sound quality isn't bad but, by playing it louder, the sound is greatly improved. You can not get a better amp for the price.

    Great for the money.

    By Bailey

Comments about Peavey Rage 258 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

Was looking for a bedroom amp so my son could practice at all hours. Checked out comparable products from Orange, Marshall, Fender and Vox. The Peavey Rage has nice features at a price below some of the competitors. Tone is better than others at thisprice point.

    Great Amp, Bad Overdrive

    By Devon

    from Athens, Ohio

Comments about Peavey Rage 258 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

First of all, If i could, I would give the amp a 4.5/5 or a 9/10 I own the older model that is identical to this one except styling, and it's a great amp. The one downside I have had with it is that the overdrive/distortion channel is very bland, lifeless, and weak. However, this is easily fixed, as the amp takes pedals VERY well. Plugging any pedal into the amp's clean channel gives you a very solid sound that responds similar to a tube amp. This is a GREAT amp for someone who wants a good sounding practice amp at an amazing price. This amp has the ability to fit literally any style as long as you have the pedal(s) to match. The Clean channel is about as good as they get, and like I said, it works great with pedals, which isn't a feature that every amp has. This amp is also very reliable, as the one I have has had at least 3 previous owners. I have had it for about a year, the owner before me had it for about 5 years, and i have no clue about the other two. It still works perfectly and has very minimal cosmetic damage. I own: 2 solid state Fender Amps, 1 Solid State Marshall, and 1 solid state Vox, Plus i used to have a solid state Line 6, and out of all of those, I prefer this amp. It really has the best response and it works the best with pedals.

    Will last forever

    By Jay

    from Philadelphia, PA

Comments about Peavey Rage 258 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

I have had the previous model of this amp for more than 15 years. Very little has changed with the newer model. I love the amp and will never part with it. I out grew it a long time ago when I was gigging. At this point it is the only amp I still have as I just play for fun now. I keep it because I can play at a low volume and it sounds great. It is also very portable and lite but can cut thought when jamming. This is a great practice or jamming amp.

Great inexpensive amp for practice and jamming

    By Matt

    from WI

Comments about Peavey Rage 258 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

I have the older model of this amp, and have had it for years. In fact, it was my first amp. It didn't take long before the tones this amp produces were really not cutting it for me. The clean channel sounds good, but when you switch to gain, it sounds really generic and lacks in bottom end. To remedy this, I use a Line 6 Uber Metal or Digitech Metal Master with it on the clean channel...this makes it sound almost like a small tube amp...it really snarls. All in all, this makes a great beginner amp or practice amp because it is cheap and you can run the volume low and still get a pretty good sound. You should know however that even if you are a beginner, you will outgrow this amp pretty quickly, but it will always be good for practice or to haul around with you if you jam with your buddies alot.

Peavy Amp - Pefect for Solo Practice

    By ProGuitarist24726

    from Miami, Florida

Comments about Peavey Rage 258 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

I have a Peavy Amp which i used for about the first two years of playing guitar. The pre and psot gian dials on the amp are easily accesable and helpful when you need distortion or a clean sound. All of the dials are labeled andit is very simple to understand and use. All in all this amp is perfect for beginning guitar and solo practice. It is also helpful if you are starting a band because the volume controls allow you to play louder than you want to hear.
