Entry level sub

By Nicholas Hedgepeth

from North Carolina

Comments about Peavey PV 118D Powered Subwoofer:

Ok this is just my thoughts, For the past year in a half I have used this sub from small to large events. I was skeptical at first due to the power rating on this sub but I needed to add some low end to my mains so I rolled the dice and bought it and now I admit I have buyers remorse. This sub does o.k. but it is what it is a entry level sub and at 300 watts and max spl of 119 it works well in smaller rooms. This sub seems to clip easy and does not give off the clearity of a higher end sub again entry level. I have had some popping sounds coming from my sub for a couple weeks now and when I talked to Peavey I was told that most likely the sub had over extended at some point. If I could go back in time and take my own advice I would have waited a little longer spend the extra money and went with something else. By the way a replacement sub for this box will run you around $130.00 to me it does not add up since you can get this sub for $500 new. It's your choice and your money if all you ever do is small stuff it might be for you but if you think you might go bigger at some point save yourself time and money and look at something different. This is only my thoughts and I am not try to bash peavey because they do make good products. Thanks

BEWARE!! BLEW IN 1st GIG

By Robert Marra

from Boston, MA

Comments about Peavey PV 118D Powered Subwoofer:

PLEASE READ! Ok, so I am a DJ, starting to get more club gigs, with the occasional gig at bars/venues with no real sound system. So I decided to invest in some speakers and a sub. This one seemed to get good reviews, and I spoke to the guitar center sales rep, and it seemed like a good 'bang for your buck' buy. I try everything out at home, and to be fair, it sounded GREAT. I even get to the bar, set everything up with about 30 minutes to spare, and have some music playing, and it really sounded quite pristine. The room started to get full, everything was going great, BUT THEN, around an hour and a half into the gig, all the sound went out. The sub had BLOWN OUT. All the volumes were at good, equalized levels. Nothing was above 6/7 out of 10 power-wise. There was absolutely no acceptable excuse for this to happen. I am definitely going to stay away from Peavey, and take the guitarcenter employees words with a grain of salt.

Great for the price and smaller venues.

By Tim Blackwood

from Atoka, TN

Comments about Peavey PV 118D Powered Subwoofer:

This sub is a great buy for the money, but you must consider the size of your venue before you settle on this one. I've used it for two months now and at my larger venues it get's lost in the mix. I was happy with the size and weight because it was easy to haul around and pack in my truck. For a mobile DJ starting out on a budget, this is your sub!

Thumper

By DJ Paul

from Rushville Mo

Comments about Peavey PV 118D Powered Subwoofer:

This is a great Sub. If you want mobility with all the sound try these. I can keep the lows loud and save my reagular speakers. Filling a High School Gym at prom with these and 2 15's was not even pushing them.
