Perhaps we only got a couple of bad ones. They were light and nice to set up and tear down, but they didn't deliver the live sound we were looking for. When they started going downhill, everything would begin distorting and buzzing before it finally blew out.
They look pretty ugly unless you want the industrial look for your room or don't care about what your speakers look like. Love how lightweight they are, though.
They worked okay for about six months with setting up and tearing them down 3 times a week. After that, they started crapping out. Difficult to get clean sounds, bad bass punch, and recently one blew out.

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

READ the pros and cons to get a pretty good idea of its capabilities. Remember that the enclosure is ABS molded plastic, and uninsulated so be prepared to EQ the mid-range to compensate, and I prefer to use a 1 inch acoustic foam spray glued into place inside the cabinet. A 31 band EQ helps tremendously as well. Beyond that I like them because they can be treated roughly and used easily by amatuers without a clue. They are lightweight so no one gets a hernia by lifting them. They are also almost waterproof, so if that wedding you're going to do is outdoors or at the beach you can feel pretty good about using them without ruining them. They are also easy to service, and that's important becuase the tweeter is not the most reliable. I carry spare RX22 drivers along with me now, just in case. Only takes 15 minutes to swap one if you're experienced at all, and requires no special tools as they screw into place.

Bare bones, they're good for most non-critical sound reinforcemnt venues, and can be modded easily to service a venue that requires more accurate sound amplification.

Picture the best use as: "sound reinforcement for a 'community' band on a hillside at the company 4th of July picnic, with a threat of a thunder storm".

    Awesome Peavey PR-15 Speakers.

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

I have been building a Karaoke System. One day I went to my Local Guitar Center, and I asked the sales person to demo some Speakers. We listened to lesser priced and high end. I kept on coming back to the Peavey PR-15's. I bought a pair and everyone at my small out door Karaoke parties say that they like my speakers. For under $500.00 one cannot go wrong with Peavey PR-15's as primary main speakers. Couple them to a Peavey IPR-1600 amp and a Behringer 1202fx mixer. I still use a CD+G karaoke player. Also lets not forget My Electro-Voice Cobalt 9 microphones. This made a nice system. Thank you Guitar Center.

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

I play bass and electric guitar in a gospel/rock/R&B band (with a drummer), and use this speaker with a 250-watt P.A. head as my amp for both instruments. I run my bass (5-string with low B) through a compressor pedal and my guitar through POD floor unit (that's my guitar amp). Both then go through direct boxes, into the main P.A. via XLR cables, and into my P.A. head with 1/4" cables. This little rig gives me plenty of EQ and power to hear everything as loud as I need on stage. I'm really happy with the lows I get from this speaker. The low B rumbles as well as through any bass amp I've ever used, and with the horn it gives me a great representation of what the crowd will hear through the band's big P.A. I love the light weight of this speaker as well. My P.A. head weighs more than the speaker does!

      Neodymium ultra-lightweight woofers

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

one feature not mentioned in the product description is the neodymium woofers. this contributes to the relatively light weight and portability of these speakers. Ugly? they're not home stereo speakers. they have a clean sound but, imho are a little deficient in the bass.

one problem I encountered: the speaker protection "fuses," are actually automotive interior dome light bulbs! on each of mine I had a problem with the glass tube of the bulb coming loose from the metal ends of the bulb. this intermittent problem drove me crazy! I even purchased new, only to discover the issue I mentioned. I super-glued the glass to the metal ends, and problem solved.
I would only recommend the speakers dependent upon their intended use. they won't take loads of power and, as previously mentioned are somewhat deficient in the bass.
as is common with most speakers of this type, the aluminum diaphraghms in the tweeters are delicate and easily blown.

        Great Karaoke Speakers

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

Had a couple of Yamaha speakers to go with my Yamaha amp/mixer, that were just too heavy to lug around. Guitar Center took them back and I got these Peavy's instead. Love them. Sound great and the weight is no longer an issue. Guitar Center has been great.

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

I used these speakers for the first time this last weekend and got many comments on the great sound they produce. As a solo guitarist, I play in many different settings and most of the time the settings are very intimate and my Acoustic Image Coda amp is all that I need. But at times, I play larger venues or outdoors and need more projection. These PR15s are just exactly what I needed. They connect easily to my amp with a speak-on to 1/4" cable and really deliver the quality of sound that I have been seeking with a system that is light weight and easy to move and set up. Having a master's degree in classical guitar, I prefer a clear, well-rounded, projected tone and with my Acoustic Image amp and the PR15's, I get just that. As to the experience of buying through Musician's Friend, all I can say is they were excellent in the sale and extremely prompt in getting my PR15s delivered. Great service, great price and great speaker.

Comments about Peavey PR 15 Loudspeaker:

Am a 65 year old respected mobile dj from near Flint Michigan. Been using the Peavy PR l2's and l5's for 3 years now. Just used a set of 15's and 12's daisy chained 90 feet apart with a 1500 watt QSC amp at Back to the Bricks, one of the nation's top outdoor car shows. Crystal clear audio 200 yards from the speakers near the historic Durant hotel on Saginaw in downtown Flint. Although both the 12's and 15's will pop out the 1/4 inch speaker cables unless taped or secured to the cabinet at high volumes they are lightweight and delivery ultra faithful sound and take a lot of abuse. Best speaker i've used in my 35 years as a mobile and 1500 events. Yes, at teen or club events you'll need a sub for best sound but i never use a sub and get no complaints.
The plastic non carpeted cabinets are great for rainy outdoor occassions. Wish this design came in an 18 inch cabinet. Dan "The Godfather" McPhail Burton MI
