I recently purchased these speakers with the intention of playing live acoustic small venues. I push these with a small 500 watt pa. Let me tell you these things ROCK. They are crystal clear even under strain. I have also run my laptop through them for a dj gig and they once again performed excellent. For the money, these would be hard to beat.

I can't believe everyone else is giving these speakers 5 stars. I bought this for light gigging with an acoustic group and these speakers just don't cut it. I'm looking for clean sound with solid bass and clear highs. The plastic cases contribute to a boomy bass, the highs are ok, but the overall sound is just muddy and not tight. I spent several days trying to EQ my way to some decent sound with these and just could never achieve it. I have a Behringer DSP unit with a reference mic that auto calibrates a 30 band EQ for the speakers but still couldn't get to a sound that I liked. Just for fun I compared these to a pair of cheap 10" Squire speakers and they sounded better! Not quite as much bass as the Peavey 12" of course, but the quality of the bass was much better. I suspect that the problem is the plastic cabinets. A light tap on the cabinet side produces a loud thumpy sound similar to the boomy base. Tapping on a wood cab with the same force produces hardly any sound at all. I really wanted to like these because of the light weight. But I'm taking them back in favor of a wood cab set.

take a licking and keep on tick...er pushing air so sweet

By Dan

from Burton MI

I'm a 67 year old car show dj, former radio air personality and run a successful one person mobile dj company for 25 years now. In outdoor car shows any speaker sounds good when placed as high as practical. One day in 2014 i forgot to remember the wind and distracted wandering cell phone airheads. A distracted guest and/or the stiff wind pushed my PR l5's over; you want to hear a sick sound listen to a speaker hitting asphalt from8-10 feet up. I felt sick as i plugged it back in and it NEVER missed a beat--NO DAMAGE to sound quality. I'll NEVER use anything except PR12'S OR PR l5's. I have both speakers and they are about 6 years old; 30 gigs a year. The light weight is remarkable. Might be better done in black but grey is ok. By the way, i was one of 3 dj's live outside at Flint Michigan's famed "Back to the Bricks" in downtown Flint in 2012. Running the PR 12 and l5's daisy chained i went out front for a sound check and you could hear every word of my helpers voice FOUR HUNDRED FEET from my table and console. Any live mobile dj not using these speakers is costing themselves; unbelievably good price as well.

Grat Buy, Must Have

By kenny huff

from Florence, IN

This speaker has very many capabilities for the great price!! I have had a pair of pr 12s for two years and they still sound the way they did from the first day i bought them. I travel a lot of places with them for the times i'm DJ abnd they can take the beating. I also do live gigs with my peavey xr 590 and the peavey pr12 running through the mixer. Putting a base, two mricophones, a guitar, and a rca line through it and never loosing power. the peavey pr12 is a great speaker to buy no hands down.

Light Weight, Cost Effective, Bright Sound

By bryan kulpanowski

from Michigan

I Compared all the 12" Speakers in store, i ended up with a pair of the PR 12s. The Yamahas were what i intended to buy they had a great sound But the PR 12s were just a little brighter and cheaper for the pair. I wall mounted them and hooked them up to my crown xls 1000. Great sound. Granted there are better - more expensive speakers out there, but for 12's they sound great. I ran my crown just in to clip for about 30 minutes as a test with some Zeplin and i am not hating on Peavey anymore. A quality product for the price. If you need more bass then get a sub.

Clear sound, durable build

By Brad Entrekin

from New Hampshire

I picked up two of these from my local GC to add to my mobile DJ setup. I power them with a crown xls1500 and the sound and volume is incredible. I used them on top of 2 - 2X15 speakers and halfway through a gig the amp powering the 2X15s blew, fortunately these were powerful enough to finish the gig. Can't ask for anything more from these little powerhouse speakers. Awesome buy.

XcellentValue

By bob esbenshade

from lancaster,pa

The Peavey PR12 s are significantly better than the other brands of this type speaker and in this price range. i am pleased with their tone. i use them for vocals in small club settings and they get the job done. i am not real anxious to try and run bass and kick through them. i think that would be pushing it a bit. the lightness and ease of use make these speakers very desirable. they definately have an application in my music world. i'm glad the salesman at GC recommended them to me.
