The Impulse 12D powered enclosure from Peavey features a true ribbon driver and a 12" Peavey Black Widow loudspeaker engineered with dual voice coil, push-pull technology, and a neodymium magnet. A Woofer Servo circuit monitors back-EMF and controls cone motion, ensuring the cone's movement mirrors the driving signal from the power amp, and resulting in very low distortion, high power handling, and rock-solid low-frequency attack.
The advanced ribbon driver—an exclusive Peavey design based on the ribbons used in the Peavey Versarray line array—provides 90° H x 30° V coverage, with sonically transparent reproduction.
Utilizing Peavey's revolutionary IPR power amplifier technology, the Impulse 12D produces 1,200 watts of efficient power while weighing a very lightweight 39 pounds. IPR amplifiers are designed with a lightweight switch-mode power supply and a high-speed Class D topology that yields the highest audio resolution and efficiency available.
The Input section features two input channels and a line output, with a mix of I/O options such as combination XLR-1⁄4" jacks, RCA, and install-ready Phoenix connections. Input channels 1 and 2 also have mic/line source switches and gain controls. The Auto-Off function automatically shuts off the power when it no longer detects a signal, while the Line Out allows the user to chain multiple units or send the input signal to another source.
The DynaQ section offers advanced tone controls such as Bass Enhancer, which is an overall loudness boost; a Music/Speech switch that provides optimized EQ settings for each audio type; and Contour, specially configured for program music. A module bay allows for future expansion including Wireless I/O, Delay/Time Adjustment, Mixer Expander, Ethernet I/O, and more.
The Impulse 12D is housed in a durable, injection-molded enclosure that includes a polemount, three flying points, and a tilt-back design to facilitate use as a personal monitor.

Not sure what these other reviews are talking about. This speaker thumps! I use these for wedding DJ gigs and I always get comments about how much bass they throw out. The ribbons in here are also nice as they eliminate the harsh highs that my Eon's have. I'm gonna pick myself up another pair. peace out.
I acn't beleive how great these enclosures sound! I hooked them up and I was blown away by the high end of these ribbon drivers. All I can say is WOW! The low end coming out of them sounded good as well. I am a DJ and these are the best sounding speakers I ahve heard in the 20+ years I have been doing this. Way to go Peavey! Fred Smith
I bought two of these speakers and the first time I used them one blew. I sent it to get repaired, it took 4 months until i got it back and once i got it back it blew again. This speaker is not what i thought it was.
I had high hopes for these ۡ Iۡm partial to ribbon drivers from my audiophile days. I was very disappointed. I did an in-store side by side against the JBL 515XT, with which Iۡm very familiar. The Impulse just couldnۡt compare in my opinion. The deep bass was missing and the mid bass sounded hollow. The high end sounded somewhat clean except at the extreme where I heard sibilance for the first time in a recording Iۡm very familiar with. I like Peavey (love their amps) but I would not recommend this speaker.
Peavey has really made a mistake with these things. My first BRAND NEW pair lacked internal baffling, although the glue which holds it had been applied. One speaker had crosstalk between two of the 'independent' channels. The blue LED on the front of the other unit didn't work, which turns red when clipping. One woofer made a terrible WHACK! under moderate bass. The top edge of both cases was cracked. The bass enhancement button on one was loose, and the electronics were very slow to engage. They smelled like an electrical fire when turned on - complete with faint smoking. I called Peavey, who had me return them, and shipped me a replacement pair (supposedly thoroughly inspected). Neither of the cases were cracked, but otherwise, they had the same problems! - Glitchy electronics, internal baffling not installed, lights that didn't work. Peavey's OWN support forum lists other such complaints. One customer returned FOUR pairs of 12D's, before giving up and buying something else.
