Overview

Part of Peavey's IPR Series, the IPR 1600 Power Amp uses an advanced design that allowed Peavey engineers to dramatically reduce weight while increasing output power, reliability, and thermal efficiency. The rackmount power amp has a resonant switch-mode power supply and a highhigh-speed class D topology that yields the supremely high audio resolution and productivity.

The Peavey IPR 1600 features two channels with independent, 100Hz crossovers and produces 530W per channel at 4 Ohms, or 800W per channel at 2 Ohms. Peavey's exclusive DDT speaker protection with multi-point clip sampling leads a protection-circuitry suite that also includes DC, Temp, Signal, and Active safeguards, all referenced on the front panel with LED indicators. It also features a variable-speed fan housed in a lightweight aluminum chassis.

Lightweight with a punch

By Steve Duncan

from Springfield, Missouri

Bought the Peavey IPR-1600 and hooked it up to 2 Peavey 215 Dual 15" Towers (2 Ohm) What a powerhouse! I can kick the speakers into high gear with this amp and still have plenty of power left over. A very good quality unit however I would suggest some 1/4 inputs & XLR inputs - the same would be helpful on the outputs. An optional switch to power the unit completely off instead of just a standby would be nice. The additional "handles" on the front of the amp gets in the way of my SKB case - will modify that myself. Will be adding additional Peavey IPR-1600 amps to my rack as the weight is very nice.

IPR's ROCK!

By musicman330

from balto. md

I have 3 of these amps running monitors and side fills. They are clearer and louder than my carvin 1540L and samson s 1000 that they replaced!

Does what it claims

By Dick

from Kalmazoo,MI

Purchased this amp to drive two PR15 NEO cabinets. Seems to do the job well. I tried it as a bass amp that worked well. It seems sensitive to CFL lights and your mixers ground. So I had to tweak the enviroment to keep the 60Hz humm away. I think the 1600 is a misleading label. It's really 300x2 into 8 ohms.

IPR GOOD!

By Alfred

from San Diego, CA

This amplifier sounds great. This is my first Class D amplifier and I've owned class A, AB, H, and I. Class D definitely has a nice clean sound to it. Mids and Highs are wonderful. And bass is punchy and defined. For those who say the amp clipped too early, well duh! It's 300 watts @ 8ohms. If your speakers are 600watts RMS, then you obviously chose a small amp. And what you hear is the DDT protection kicking in protecting from blowing your speakers. If you're clipping, GET A BIGGER AMP!

Unbelievable

By Michael Booth

from Hewitt, NJ

I bought one for my bass rig. The tight punch was unbelievable. We tried it on our subs and had the same tight kick, although with a bit less power than we want. Can't wait for the higher powered models. We left it on the monitors where everyone in the band noticed they were easier to hear. I bought a second one and tried it on the lows/mid bass. Great clarity, but need a bit more. Now it powers the horns and sounds oh so sweet. As soon as the 3000 is for sale, we are junking our heavyweights and replacing everything in the rack with IPRs.

dont need it

By Dennis(muscle music)dj

from Red Oak,TX

Own this Amp. Hooked it up to a pv 1-18 and it did not do any good, Same with the 1-15 cab. This amp looks good, feels good it light enought to hand carry these a long way, but for me playing it is not right To me its a standard Amp and I cant get it to play loud because when I turned it up to 3 notches it clips and my speaker struggles and the sound cuts in and out as if someone is playing with the volume controls. Even when I decreased the input signals I do not get much volume. I juiced it from my mixer. I bought it ,I do not like it. All my other amps work, this doesn't work for me.

IPR1600

By Jeff

from south dakota

Just got the new Peavey IPR1600 amp. This thing looks cool. Hooked it up to two JBL JRX215 cabs. It played very loud before clipping, but sounded pretty rough in the mids and highs. To do a comparision we hooked up a QSC RMX2450, WOW! the improvement of sound quality from the QSC was extremely noticeable. Not impressed with the sound quality of the IPR amp. but hey they look cool.
