Is This A Good Guitar Amp?

By Dennis

from Roseville CA

Comments about Peavey Envoy 110 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

Is this a good guitar amp? Yes, it most certainly is. I?ve owned this amp for a year now and Peavey?s claims for an amp that can produce a tube amp sound or tone are in fact true. However, the use of this amp really depends on what your needs are for a guitar amp, and it turns out this amp does not meet the needs I have. This amp has way too much background or white noise for my taste when you turn the volume up. This amp will not work with any effects or distortion pedals, which I prefer to use. I?ve tried hooking my BOSS blues pedal to the clean side of this amp many times now and have adjusted the tone, level and gain in dozens of different ways but it just will not give me the sort of blues dirt I?m looking for. The sound that comes out is still relatively clean even though I?ve turned the gain up to full throttle. If I switch to the lead side of the amp I can get some pretty good distortion from the amp itself, but adding a distortion pedal to this side just ruins the sound and tone entirely. Pedals on the lead side of the amp really don?t work at all. Furthermore, at times I play to various sound tracks, or practice tracks which I connect through my BOSS looping station and play through the amp?s speaker. This can only be done on the clean side of the amp. The lead side will distort the sound track if I?m trying to play my guitar with distortion, so I?m stuck playing the amp on the clean side only. So with the setup I?ve just described I have no way to play my guitar with distortion on this amp.

Used Envoy 110 a Great Deal

By Gregory

from Springboro, Ohio

Comments about Peavey Envoy 110 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

I was looking for a small solid state amp that used a 10" speaker. My goal was to recover it in white, to match my white Ibanez Artcore hollowbody, and drop in a JBL K110 speaker. My wanna-be gig is to get back into playing music again, playing standards and I thought the white Ibanez and white amp against a black tuxedo would be a good look. I found a used Envoy (the older red-stripe version) at a Guitar Center in the northern part of my state. I ordered it and had it the next day! Sweet. The amp arrived in good condition (used)and fully functional. It had everything I wanted: a lightweight solid state amp (it did get a bit heavier with the JBL K110), with two useful channels and the ability to dial in the clean, fat, jazzy sound I wanted from the Ibanez with flatwound strings. The channel 'voicing' switches give useable, distinct sounds. It's a great amp for the used price I paid. As nice as my Fender Princeton Reverb? No, but I want to leave that at home. And the Envoy 110 is a great amp to take to gigs, good tone and enough power for the gigs I want to do. The only thing I regret is that I didn't notice when I ordered it that it only goes to "10". So if I want that little bit extra to go over the edge... But yea, I'm happy with the purchase and the Guitar Center service.

sweet little amp

By jack faehl

from Vidor Texas

Comments about Peavey Envoy 110 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

I bought this little Peavey Envoy 1 ten used for around 98 bucks. It sounded better on the clean chanel than the new Marshal MG amps. I wanted something small that sounded decent that I could leave at church. I dont like to leave my Fender Hot Rod Delux because someone might leave it on and burn it up. So I was about to pull the trigger on a new Carbon 15 watt Marshal when I saw this setting on the used gear pile. I went over and plugged into it and was quite amazed at how it sounded. I was using a nice Gretch hollow body guitar and the distortion side sounded prety good I was suprised to say the least. Then I checked out the clean side and thats where it has to really shine as I have a BOSS ME-50 where I can get effects from. So it sounded nice and with three different amp settings to choose from I was able to get the right sound. I like the EQ on both chanels so they are not shared by both sides and that is a big thing that most other combo amps dont have. Plus a line out, now thats the positive side of this amp the reverb is a litte lacking but not a deal breaker as the ME-50 has all the reverb that I can use. Of course the speaker was a little weak if you turn it up all the way it started to break up and rattle, not like tube breakup but rather like it's gonna break. I change the speaker out and put a Eminence Patriot Ragin Cajun 10 inch speaker in it and it made a whole world of difference, the Peavey Blue Marvel speaker that is stock looks like a toy compared the Ragin Cajun. And one more thing this amp is very responsive to touch if you pick soft and light the sound is low but if you really dig in it gets way louder, it didnt have a footswitch so I used my trusty Boss FS-6 and it controls chanel switching and the boost function as well so I am very happy with this little monster, thanks Peavey and Guitar Center.

Best $50 I've Spent In A Long Time

By Paul Buchholz

from Freehold, NJ

Comments about Peavey Envoy 110 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

I got one of the old Envoy 110s used for $50 because I wanted a "high risk" amp to go with my "high risk" Ibanez solid body guitar with it's two humbucker/fixed bridge configuration. With 40 watts and a 10" speaker it has enough balls to use with a drum kit and other amplified instruments. What I really like is the clean channel with the reverb on about 4 and the lows at 6.5, mids on 5, and highs on 5. It sounds very nice at those settings. I occasionally use the pre/post gain channel with the pre gain set at 3 or 4 and otherwise the same settings I use on the clean channel. You really have to play with the controls to get the sound you want on the pre/post gain channel, but after some experimenting I was able to get a nice raspy blues tone that really does sound like an old tube amp. This amp can be very tube like and it tends to respond to pick attack the way tube amps do; meaning that light attack stays clean and heavy attack gets a raspy tone. While they work OK, I have no real use for the distortion options. The only issue I have with the amp is that at higher settings the reverb is a tad noisy and it takes fairly precise settings to get a good sound out of the pre/post gain channel. Other than that I have nothing but praise for it. Peavey amps are well built and reliable, and the Envoy 110 is easy to carry around and fit in a car. It's certainly loud enough to use for band practices and small gigs. Again, this is part of my "high risk" rig and while I have better and much more expensive equipment for some occasions I am satisfied with what the Envoy 110 does for me. It's small enough to use for a home practice amp and loud enough to cut it with a band that doesn't make peoples' ears bleed. Really, 40 watts and a 10" speaker is usually enough and I hate lugging big heavy amps around only to play all night with the volume on 2. This little sucker does the job for a very low price and without hurting my back or taking up much room in the car. I like it!

Pretty Good

By Ron

from Dublin CA

Comments about Peavey Envoy 110 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

I've had this amp for a year and a half. All in all it's a pretty good little amp.It sounds great with my Peavey Git Fiddle, but I've just bought myself a Fender American Deluxe Strat. and this amp just is not able to deliver that true Strat. sound. No matter what setting I've tried. Next amp Fender Hot Rod Deluxe.

Comments about Peavey Envoy 110 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

this thing really does sound tube like. i returned a vox ac4tv class "A" tube amp to get this. the vox didnt have the low end that my les paul needs. this peavey does though. the cleans are AMAZING. by far the best cleans of any solid state ive heard. the distortion however, may leave some people wanting more. but if you have a good distortion pedal, then youll be set. all in all, this is a great amp. and yes, it will hold its own with a drummer in a small setting. def. a good buy. not too shabby

By tye

from Litchfield, MN

Comments about Peavey Envoy 110 Guitar Amplifier with TransTube Technology:

although it took quite a while to get more of this amp in stock and get it to me, it was definitely worth the wait. there are a lot of cool features to play around with, and you can get a lot of different tones. it's small and light weight, but it has plenty of power for home practice or small gigs. i am not at all unhappy with this purchase, and i don't think you will be either.
