Versatile Amp!

By Ryan

from Charleston, AR

Comments about Peavey Classic 50 50W 2x12 Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

This is the best amp I've ever owned. The clean channel is as clear as any Fender Twin has ever been but the tubes break up nicely when pushed. The lead channel is easy to dial in a great overdriven tone without losing any of the sound of the guitar. For those who know what I am talking about, it feels like it should when playing. You can't go wrong with the Classic 50.

quality, affordable, and versatile amp

Comments about Peavey Classic 50 50W 2x12 Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

Metal head by trade, but I also play in a pink floyd tribute band, and I enjoy a wide variety of music from animals as leaders, to classical music, radiohead, some jazz, honestly all over. I think it helps in reviews to state your tastes so you can best interpret what biases I may have in what I'm looking for in sounds. This amp shares a close resemblance in cleans to the cleans of a vox ac amp, more so though than the fender sound. I owned a fender hotrod and prefer this amp to that. Between the box ac 15 and this amp it's sort of a toss up. The greenback in the ac15 may have made the tone just the slightest bit better, but this amp has a better lead channel. The presence really adds some distortion to your lead sound, however if you want super chunky distortion for chugging you'll need pedals, but you probably aren't looking at this amp in the first place. You can find these amps used for cheap, as they don't quite have the resale value of some fenders or vox's, which is another bonus I might add. It is extremely powerful with more than enough headroom for any un-mic'd show you could ever play, and is also extremely heavy, this isn't a huge deal for me but I feel it is important to mention anyways. I have owned an or15 and matching cab, mesa dual rec and cab, line 6 valve spider, box ac15, fender hotrod deville, egnater tweaker, marshall dsl and a peavey6505. The or15 was hands down my favorite, orange distortion is in a class of it's own. But for cleans, this amp or the ac15 are the best, and this particular amp is better for live shows than even the ac30, it may have a tad more headroom with the extra 20 watts and more powerful speakers. However the tone is very comparable seeing as they have the same tubes el-84s. Quality amp for a gigging musician on a budget
