Overview

The Classic 20 MH Mini Head is part of Peavey's timeless Classic Series which are revered by blues, country and rock players alike. Their versatility allows them to span the tonal landscape from vintage to contemporary with ease, and the Classic 20 MH Mini Head provides that tone in a highly portable package.

The all-tube, 20-watt Classic 20 MH is powered by two EL84 power tubes and three 12AX7/ECC83 preamp tubes. It has two channels that follow the same gain structure and voicing of the Peavey Classic Series amps for pure and versatile tone. The channels share a three-band EQ, lush reverb and an effects loop. The channels, effects loop and reverb are all footswitchable.

Peavey's TSI tube monitoring alerts players of power tube status, and in the event of a necessary tube replacement, identifies which tube needs to be replaced. Rear panel features such as a Microphone Simulated Direct Interface (MSDI) with XLR output and USB out, speaker defeat switch and three-position power attenuator switch make the Classic 20 MH Mini Head perfect for studio environments.

Features
  • Power: 20W (tube)
  • Attenuation: 20W, 5W or 1W
  • Tubes: three 12AX7 (preamp); two EL84 (power amp)

Comments about Peavey Classic 20 Micro Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Was looking to purchase a 20 watt head for practice and small gigs. This head does the job and
then some. The clean channel has a nice warm sound, but if you turn the volume up about 6 or 7
you get that classic break up. I love the boost you get on the footswitch that comes with the amp
head. A real keeper.

Great amp, but a word of caution

Comments about Classic 20 Micro Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Great sounding amp, great distorted tones, and REALLY great clean tones. A lot of good features on a tube amp. However, the reverb on the amp was HORRIBLE, at least to me. It sounded very much like they tried to digitally replicate a spring reverb unit, but it sounded awful, with this weird "chittering" sound to the back end after I turned it up passed about 3 on the knob. It made chords sound terrible, and single notes sound even worse. Don't know if mine was just a dud, or if this is the case with all of these amps, but I ultimately returned mine.

Comments about Peavey Classic 20 Micro Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Ive only had the amp a couple weeks now but I am completely impressed! The clean channel is beautiful. I have a couple different 2x12 cabs and the sound is warm and articulate and big through both cabs. Lots of mids and bass but what I really love is that I can crank the treble all the way up and it sounds so clear without that icepick attack that many other amps suffer from. The lead channel is also great with lots of compression and sustain on tap. The lead channel may even replace my current fuzz pedal. I have also tried the XLR mic simulated out directly into a mixing board and it sounds really good as well. Both on clean and lead channels.
I have been a gigging musician for many years and owned many amps and I can say that this is my favorite amp for my setup. It plays great with pedals too. I even prefer it over my AC 15 creamback combo. I should mention that I replaced two preamp tubes with Tungsols but left the stock power tubes(JJs).

Comments about Peavey Classic 20 Micro Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have owned a Peavey Classic, Musician and Classic 4/10 and loved all three of them. This gem is just perfect for my home studio!! i am particularly drawn to the speakerless direct out option which i can use with my home recording studio. I just set it up last night and the clean channel has reams of headroom on the 5 watt setting. Need to explore the gain channel more. However, i expect to have loads of fun running it with my collection of pedals which emulate a selection of classic amps. However, going direct gives you that classic sound we all have grown to love out of this little critter's big brothers. Peavey is a name gigging musicians have grown to depend on. its been over 20 years since I owned one and feel right at home with this little babe! Just be sure to read the instructions before you use it speakerless. Highly recommended!!

Comments about Peavey Classic 20 Micro Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I use a Peavey classic 50 in clubs. This classic mini 20 sounds great and I really love the features on the back for the studio---namely, the attenuator switch (20 to 5 to 1 watt) and the MSDI (mic simulated direct interface) output (XLR or USB). Sweet!

Comments about Peavey Classic 20 Micro Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I needed something light weight for a duo act we recently started. This little head is perfect for what I'm doing. It's light and has the option to go from 20 watts, to 5, to 1. Direct line out sounded great through the PA at my first show using this head. Ran it through the matching 112 cab with an Eminence Legend speaker. It's light, has an effects loop, direct out, 5 watt option, and it even has tube indicators that let you know if you have a tube issue. It sounded great both through the cab and through the PA. It's exactly what I needed. Looks great as well !

Comments about Peavey Classic 20 Micro Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This amp head is a must have! This amp plays very clean on both channels at all volumes. I paired this amp head up with a Marshall MG412 slant cab and couldn't be happier. I can get very nice clean sounds for surf and jazz, turn it up for blues sounds, then go into the overdrive section and get 70's, 80's and 90's Rock. I can even get tones for hair metal and thrash, I also get punk tones as well. The amp looks and sounds great! If you play more modern music like death metal or scooped mids you won't get those sounds, maybe with pedals....? Just go and try this amp out, if you play the music it was made to play you'll love it and most likely will buy it. The tube warning lights is also awesome.

Comments about Peavey Classic 20 Micro Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Good amp, nice sound. Just keep in mind that in order to sound really good you will have to go over volume level 7, even in 1W mode this is still loud, not crazy loud but it is not bedroom level. Using headphone without speaker solves that and the sound is good but not as good as when using a real speaker.
