Creamy tube warmth with extensive tone tweakability!

The Windsor Tube Amp Head employs three 12AX7 preamp tubes and four EL34 power-amp tubes in a single-channel configuration to deliver the sound of rock's golden era with exclusive Peavey technology and reliability.

While most amplifiers leave the EQ to the preamp section, the Windsor features Peavey's patented Presence and Resonance controls, which adjust speaker damping from tight to loose in the high and low frequency ranges, respectively. The Windsor also offers Peavey's patent-pending Texture™ circuitry for adjusting the response characteristics from modern Class A/B push-pull to vintage Class A sounds. The Texture control provides incremental adjustment for an incredible range of tone texturing and coloring.

The Windsor also features a footswitchable gain boost, three-band rotary EQ on the preamp, master volume, footswitchable effects loop and high and low inputs.

Peavey Windsor Tube Amp Head Features:

  • 120 all-tube watts
  • Three 12AX7 preamp tubes
  • Four EL34 power amp tubes
  • Single channel
  • Footswitchable gain boost
  • Three-band EQ
  • Footswitchable effects loop
  • Master Volume

peavey windsor tube amp

I have had this for about 2 months and now that i have experimented i have found that it is a very good amp. i could not believe that you could buy a tube amp for $400 and have it sound this good. although it is not quite as good as some of the reviews have said, it is not a marshall and therwefore does not sound as good but for the money i dont think you can beat it. also some reviews said tha you cannot get a good clean sound, they are completely wrong, plug into the low input preamp volume at 1 master volume as high as you want use the neck pickup with the tone rolled of and you get a beautiful sound, on the bridge pickup there is just a hint of breakup(at stage volumes you will have to decrease the guitars volume control).thwe distortion sound is also very good, from blues to classic rock to metal, works well with my zakk wylde overdrive(lots of feedback though, but thats ok).The only thing i dont like is the lack of reverb and that the knobs go up to 12, its confusing trying to translate the settings i've written down, also the resonance controlis useless to me because i dont like the sound when its turned down. overall i would definately recommend this amp for anyone looking for a good tube amp on a budget

Best Head for the money

I have been playing guitar both as a hobby and as a profession for 30 years. I have owned soo many amps I can't begin to list them. I have been using one of the original 5150 heads for the last 15 years, and have loved the tone. it recently blew the caps and transformer, tubes also needing changed I decided to start looking at newer amps, cuz of the price of fixing the 5150. when I first looked at the windsor I thought this can't be good, a tube amp for $400. then I plugged in my les paul, and was amazed at the powerful tone. I can't believe they can sell such an awesome sounding tube head at this price. I told the salesman to wrap it up, and I took it home, I use les pauls, morley wah, an RP7 tube preamp through 4 70 watt celestion speakers and i think this is the best sound rig I have ever owned. I will soon be buying another as a backup, peavey does have a rep for discontinuing amps, so i have to have another for the future. If your looking for an awesome sounding head on a low budget, don't let this head pass you by. you won't regret buying it.

Peavey Windsor

I'm not sure why but I have been a Peavey amp user for a couple decades now, may be its my blue collar budget.I have had some great practice amps and one rig the Triumph which probably helped in building better amps like the JSX and Triple X.The Triumph was a complete dog its hard to believe it was a tube head.Lady luck had its eye on me when I picked up the Classic 50 used for 400 dollars used. That amp is a real classy beautiful sounding combo.I have been in a hard rock metal band for about a year now and needed a hundred watt tube head to sit on my 4x12 cabinet.I looked once again to peavey for an answer and they fired back with the Peavey Windsor head. The price tag is so low it kinda scared me until I tryed the head at my local music store, it floored me.Using a good Strat I ran it through the test and all I can say is its loud, clear and very Marshall like. One channel with very effective eq.I love the post eq resonace dial which tunes your cabinet with grace and balls. The A/B texture knob makes tonal versatility the Windsors middle name.It took me all of an hour to decide that the Windsor will be mine, I ordered it cause it seems a lot of places have to special order them and I didn't want the floor model. If this head works out for me I will probably get a second and put it in reserve.Your can really get 2 for the price of one here. This amp screams Marshall JCM series particlarly JCM 800.Peavey thank you for the opportunity to rock with power fidelity and tonal mayhem, for the price of a junk solid state wanna be amp!

smokin' head

i bought one of these about 4 months ago. i liked the sound but i thought it could be improved. i replaced the AX7's with a handmatched set of russian AX7's and replaced the ruby power tubes with russian made EL34's. this really gave it a kick. this head smokes now. this is a great head for a beginner or advanced pro. for $400, grab one before they are out of production.

Awesome Amp

This amp really floored me when I tried it. Yes, it has a marshally-classic tone, but it's perfectly equipped for harder rock or metal. Very, very ballsy, excellent for the price. I would have liked to see two channels, but if that's the price i gotta pay for a bad-ass all tube half stack, It's worth it. If you're looking for a tube amp, and like a tight, clear distortion, and you're on a budget, then this is the amp for you.
