Peavey ValveKing II Micro 20W Tube Guitar Head (109720144)
Availability:

The King is back, and better than ever.

In addition to all the boutique qualities and hot-rodded tones that guitarists have come to expect from the ValveKing series, the new generation line incorporates brand new cutting-edge features for recording and performing musicians. For the recording musician, the ValveKing features a USB-direct recording output, which pipes the miked amp vibe directly into a computer. On the rear panel, the built-in Peavey MSDI (Microphone Simulated Direct Interface) XLR direct interface eliminates the need for miking by allowing users to send the amp's signal directly to a recording device or mixing console.

With versatile tone for rock, jazz, or metal, the new generation ValveKings have the capabilities to create almost any sound imaginable. ValveKing’s proprietary Vari-ClassTM knob enables guitarists to adjust the ValveKing's “class” characteristics, allowing for complete power amp type versatility. True to its name, ValveKing even includes the new TSITM tube-monitoring indicator that keeps you apprised of the health of your tubes.

ValveKing offers other high-end features, including variable power control, so you can tailor your output to your performance situation without compromising tone. With triple 12AX7s, two independent foot-switchable channels each with their own EQ, and the Vari-Class variable Class A/AB simulation control, the next generation ValveKing delivers massive amounts of completely customizable all-tube power.

  • Wow...thoroughly impressed

As reviewed by JASON PERSILVER on 4/22/2014

So, I've been in the market for a smaller head that still didn't lack the features of a full-sized one. When I saw this one, I thought, ok, it's just a Peavey. It probably doesn't sound great, but they loaded features on it to attract people like me. I went to GC to check it out and was blown away by the quality of the sound. I played it through a few different speaker cabs to hear the difference and I chose the Rebel 112 because it seemed to handle the low frequencies better. The CLEAN channel was outstanding. I love that it had a nice tone but there was a snap to it that I really enjoyed. It was pretty easy to get a good tone out of it. I will say it's not like every setting was playable, but the EQ's worked pretty well. The OVERDRIVE channel blew me away. It has about as much gain as I'll need. I did a side by side comparison to the Dark Terror and the Tubemeister 18 while I was there as well. I thought the clean channel on the Tubemeister was really fake sounding compared to the Peavey. The Dark Terror...well let's just say that YouTube videos don't do it justice. That thing is a gain monster and cleans up nicely as well. With all that said, the gain on the Peavey held it's own pretty well and easily got into hard rock and some metal territory. I love that it still have 2 channels, you can change the watt settings. The reverb was pretty good. It wasn't the best but it's usable if necessary. If you're in the market for a small but feature filled amp, you have to check it out, you may be pleasantly surprised. We will see how it holds up over time but so far...it's a winner.
