  • I've used better...

As reviewed by Steve on 6/8/2010

I am normally a big fan of the SP speaker line, but I'm just not crazy about these monitors. Sure they sound okay, but they sure have to be pushed hard to get great sound. Much harder than the JBLs and Yamahas I have used in the same setup. They just have a rather "dull" sound to them, which is not good in a live situation. I like to be able to hear subtle nuances in my vocals and guitar, and unless these things are cranked up extremely loud, it just does not happen. At least the way it does with our JBLs and Yamahas. It is rather puzzling, as our SP2 mains are very efficient, and sound great at any volume. Are they solid? Built like a tank (I mean, it's a Peavey). Sound quality is just not my favorite. Granted, they do not sound bad at all. If you need extremely loud stage volumes, these would be outstanding. However for smaller venues, or in a church setting...you might want to look at some others, or at least try them out in your setup before making your decision.
