The PVM 22 is a dynamic cardioid microphone that incorporates a special neodymium magnet. This magnet greatly increases sensitivity over conventional microphones, and with this Peavey mic's diamond-coated diaphragm, transient and frequency response are flawless.
The best sounding, most rugged performance mic I've ever owned. The first one I ever bought took 12 years of being abused indoors, outdoors, around drunks, children, and angry girlfriends. It took that long for the internal shock mount to finally give up, and even then it still worked great, just with more handling noise. I think it is a better mic than the Shure SM58.
The noise rejection on this mic is amazing! And it is hotter than the SM58! It virtually eliminates cord and stand noise and is impervious to handling noise. I do love the SM58, especially for women singers, but when I try to record young girls (no matter how "still" the parents promise them to be), I pull the PVM 22 out every time. Some complain about the distortion or feedback, but it gives a little something to the younger folks that makes them sound like trained professionals. I also use this mic to record acoustic guitar and it beats the crap out of my SM57's all day long. Yes, it's a little more expensive than the 57/58 some places ($30 cheaper others) but it's worth every penny. Oh, and in this price range it's really hard to find a mic made in the USA like this one is. Thank you Peavey!
