Tube flexibility and punch with easy-to-get modern screaming distortion.
Joe Satriani is undoubtedly one of the greatest guitar players of all time, and Peavey has built him an amp with the sound, feel, and flexibility he's always sought. With a punchy gain structure that boosts your playing with authority, this amp delivers sounds ranging from Classic 50 to vintage British, modern Triple XXX, and all the in-between tones.
The versatile and comprehensive control section supplies a master volume pot and independent volume knobs for each of the three channels (Ultra, Crunch, and Clean). Tone shaping is accomplished through passive controls for Bass, Mid, and Treble on the Clean channel, while the Ultra and Crunch channels use active Bottom, Body, and Hair (lo, mid, hi) controls. The Clean channel is pristine yet warm and is specifically voiced to work well with effects pedals. The Ultra and Crunch channels have gain controls and fat switches to further assist in taming this thunderous tube-powered beast while achieving killer sound.
Global resonance and presence knobs increase control of high-end tones, while a noise gate on the Crunch and Ultra channels cuts down on the excess noise generated by running the gain and EQ controls on high settings. Since the gate is fully adjustable, you can really clamp down, leave it slightly open, or just turn it off.
The JSX uses 3 - 12AX7 preamp tubes and 4 - EL34 power amp tubes. The power amp section delivers an earth-quaking 120W of pure tube power and can be converted to 4 - 6L6GC. It is also designed to work equally well into 4-, 8-, or 16-ohm loads.

Best amp head yet
WOW this amp is amazing, im glad i got this one instead of the 6505 head. i had gotten the 6505 at first but i took it back due to i thought it didn't cut through as well so i brought home the jsx and man i was blown away. The most thing i like is that on the gain channels the controls are active so you can get any kind of sound you want out of it. Ill take this amp over a mesa any day, Good Job Peavey.

holy loudness joe
after 15 years of playing guitar, i finally got sick of turning knobs to find the sound i'm after. so i spent a day at guitar center trying amp after amp. the brand name, appearance, & price was irrelevent to me at this point. let your ears decide, not your eyes or wallet.
at the end of the day the peavey Jsx stood alone. the marshall sound wasnt really what i was after, however the Jsx crunch channel can be set to resemble a marshall sound. i was looking for more like the 5150 sound. but 5150 & 6505 really lack in clean channel, features, and versatility. the Jsx ultra channel to me was even better than the 5150/6505 lead sound. it seemed heavier, more bottom end, and trust me there is MORE than enough gain on this channel.
some complain about the clean channel being dry, not a good clean sounding clean or whatever. well, thats true. but its that way by design. it is the cleanest, purest clean i have ever heard. even using the emg81 bridge pickup at high volumes this thing would not break up. any other amp i have ever used i simply could not use the emg81 on clean. there is no better amp for using distortion pedals than this! (i dont use them). with that being said, for clean sounds i bought a lexicon reverb effects processor to take advantage of the killer effects loop the Jsx has.
plain, dry clean channel....now an unbelievable clean channel!
did i mention this thing is LOUD!?
i run this through 2 crate gt412 cabinets. one cab has celestion seventy 80's. the other i use celestion g12k-100's. CRATE??? this the gt412 is simply a great cabinet with damn good speakers at a very good price. this set up is unbelievably loud. at the point of, "holy shit this things loud" there is still headroom to spare. lots of it. i get scared to turn it up any louder, my drummer, and other guitarist hate me...PERFECT!

whoa pony!!!!!
OH MY GOD!!!!!!! I am absolutely speechless as to the sounds available with this amp! The ultra channel is my favorite, especially because of the fact that there really is no need to run an overdrive pedal (such as a TS-9 or a DS-1) in front of the amp- it sounds as if it already has one "built-in"!!!!!!The resonance and presence controls sound like there is a BBE sonic maximizer ran through the fx loop (which I have to do with my stock marshall tube head to get it to sound good...)As far as the lack of reverb control, well let's just say that a tube head this good DESERVES a good rackmount reverb/digital fx unit. The bottom line- THIS AMP HAS BALLS THE SIZE OF THE EARTH!!!!
Sincerely,

Best head.
I'm not a fan of buying gear that has someones name on it EVEN if it is someone as great as Satch but I knew the minute the guy at the music shop cranked it up this was my amp. The only thing the machine of decibalic destruction is missing is a reverb knob. 3 tonally distinct channels, ALL tube and louder than you'll ever need.
If you got the $$ buy this rig.

The JSX Kicks!
I just picked up my JSX today, and I am thrilled with the low end chunky sound from the Rhythm channel and the ultimate gain from the Ultra channel. I have been playing professionally for 25 years and have played through everything under the sun. I can get any sound I want from this Peavey JSX! I bought this amp because each individual channel has it's own volume control, so my leads will shine through every night! There is no need to use additional pedals to find that perfect heavy tone I was looking for. Right out of the box the JSX is stage ready! I am so excited to play this thing on stage this weekend! Thank you Satriani and Peavey! Finally an amp that has "The Sound" I was looking for!
