  I just recently got this amp and cannot stop playing it. When i first got the amp i cranked the gain (Pre and Post Stages) and was amazed at how much i got out of the amp. You can get even more if you mess with the prescene (low end) and resonence (high end) knobs. I also run a Tube screamer through and the sound is pure metal. I higly suggest gettin a noise suppresor though if you plan on having the amp above 3 but it is still a monster of an amp and virtually indestructible.

  This amp blew me away when I played it at Guitar Center. It is by far the best amp I've played through or heard (and that's a lot of mesas and marshalls). This thing put them to shame. It has smooth but heavy distortion, an awesome crunch sound and a clear clean tone, not to mention its LOUD!!! Sounds almost exactly like a dual recto in my oppinion but for half the price of one (the half stack is a few hundred $$ less than just the dual recto head). Totaly worth it and will definatly be my next amp! Oh and did I mention that its versitile? It can put out most any tone you want and sound amazing doing it.

• If you love a very dark metal sound, get this amp.

  Very finnicky amp in my opinion. This amp is built extremely well. I have had mine for years now and I have never had a problem whatsoever. It is just maintenance to change the tubes every once in a while. Probably the best amp build out there on the market. My only problem with this amp is tone. Obviously 6L6 tubes are dark. I had this amp paired with a Mesa boogie traditional cab. Not the oversized rectifier cab. With the mesa cab and vintage 30's, this amp was way too dark and flubby on the bottom end. No cut really at all. I always find myself trying to boost the presence knob to get any cut whatsoever. I always have my midrange cranked to about 7 and still did not work well with the mesa cab. Eventually, I paired this amp with a marshall vintage cab and that did wonders for my tone. So be careful with what cab you are using for this amp. the tone drastically changes between cabs. The tone is alright now. The lead channel does have alot of gain onboard, but it is a very very very dry gain. There is no wetness to the gain at all. Mesa boogies and engls have wet gain. I mean you get what you pay for out of this amp definately. I gave it 4 stars because it really needs a tube screamer or some sort of overdrive pedal. A lot of my friends always pair this amp with an OD pedal. We can all agree that the pedal makes the amp sound soooooo much better. But in the end, we all agree that we are not getting that true tube tone because of the pedals we use obviously. We were talking about how we could push the gain to 6 or 8 without a pedal. Of course at these settings there is alot of gain, but what sounds weird about this amp is that at these settings there is not a whole lot of sustain. High end notes die quickly. I know what everyone is thinking, well how is there a ton of gain but no sustain? That is what I keep asking myself. That is what is weird with this amp. The tube screamer just makes this amp sound way better but you are going to lose the true tone. I know one could buy the 6505+ with an overdrive as well for less than an engl or real high dollar amp, but trust me, you will pair this amp with an overdrive pedal eventually and lose the tone. My advice would be to save your money just a little while longer and buy an amp with better tone and gain circuitry. I would go with a regular 6505 amp or a peavey 6534+. The peavey 6534+ amp sounded way better in my opinion. Alot more presence, and because of this, it seemed to have more susutain for my tastes.
