  • AMERICAN MADE BLACK METAL MACHINE

As reviewed by Eric Christian on 10/20/2010

If you play Black, Death, Nu or Speed Metal this amp is a no-brainer for the price. You could play a show right out of the box with this monster. I've always had Marshall JCM800's and also had a VHT head but this amp sounds way better for my style of music. My Marshalls always sounded so boomy, thin and flabby and always needed a whole chain of stompboxes to get the right tone. Not with the 6505+. Its plug and play right out of the box. You might want add a noise gate of some sort and possibly a digital delay or reverb to the effects loop but thats about it because all your tone and distortion will come from this amp. The only thing that sounds as dark and crunchy as this amp is a Krankenstein + but its another $700-800 plus their customer service is dismal to say the least or perhaps a Bogner for triple the price. Customer service with Peavey is awesome too. You can speak to a real person right here in the USA in less than a minute after calling and it comes with a 5 year warranty as well. There is a reason why Guitar Center stocks this amp and sells so many. Any questions, talk to my buddy Hawkey at the Beaverton Oregon store and he will tell why this head is pretty much the best you can buy for the money.

  • Pure Metal Tone

As reviewed by Matt Smith on 8/31/2010

I just recently got this amp and cannot stop playing it. When i first got the amp i cranked the gain (Pre and Post Stages) and was amazed at how much i got out of the amp. You can get even more if you mess with the prescene (low end) and resonence (high end) knobs. I also run a Tube screamer through and the sound is pure metal. I higly suggest gettin a noise suppresor though if you plan on having the amp above 3 but it is still a monster of an amp and virtually indestructible.

  • An excellent head.

As reviewed by ESPKannon on 12/6/2010

There are few amps as heralded as the 6505/6505+ line, and for good reasons. I've owned many amps (Mesa, Splawn, Orange, Diezel, etc) and while this isn't in the same build quality as a handmade Diezel or Splawn, it hangs tough with any of these tonewise. If you use your ears, you can get decent cleans, excellent crunch/midrange heavy rock tones, and tight, aggressive, thrashy madness. Its cleans are unremarkable, but for heavy, focused attack and really big rhythm and lead sounds, this amp does it in spades. Be sure to pair it with some decent speakers though, like any good amp. For $1200, there's virtually nothing out there new that can touch the 6505+. This is not a blues amp. This is not a funk amp. This is a rock/metal amp. Keep that in mind and you'll be fine.
