  • NICE!!!

As reviewed by Joshua Blount on 2/15/2012

I tried many amps including the Randall, Egnator, Fender, and Vox looking for a compact amp that could deliver. Negatives; the stock sheffield speaker is not the best option for this amp. I went with a celestion v30 classic and it really sweetened up the sound. Also the ruby 6L6 tubes really aren't the best sounding so they got replaced by a pair of GT 6L6 GC Gold series tubes and WOW the difference is night and day. That said Peavey got it right with this amp.I get it with producing a cost effective product. The clean channel does leave a bit to be desired, but as a whole this is a very usable rig. Put my favorite stomp boxes in front of it and rock out. I have to say I didn't expect to end up choosing this amp over the rest, but it really did catch my ear.

  • Almost Perfect Amp

As reviewed by Desiree Lhotka on 9/13/2011

I gave this amp 4 stars for a couple of reasons. First and foremost, the stock Sheffield speaker that it comes with is less than stellar. It breaks up nice but on the low end it gets real muddy. When you turn the bass up on this amp, it has almost no effect on the lead channel. It does more on the crunch channel. That being said, when I went shopping for an amp, I was looking for a solid Heavy Metal amp, and with exception of the speaker, this beast delivers. I played this amp, A Line 6 Spider Valve, a used Orange Rockerverb, and a used Mesa Dual Rec and this amp, hands down for the money is the best buy of the bunch. It has every bit of the distortion the Dual Rec has at about 1/3 the price brand new. This amp is basically a 2 trick pony. It does hard rock well and excels at any kind of heavy metal. I'm talking anything from a Metallica (post gain at 4) Thrash type of sound to total Death-core Metal Job For A Cowboy (post gain at 7) type sound. If your looking for an AC/DC or ZZ Top type of sound, move on because even the cleans are a bit dirty. Dollar for Dollar, this amp rocks in almost every way. I want you to know that I did swap the speaker out with an Eminence Swamp Thang and it woke this beast up. When I adjust the bass on this amp now, it responds in a massive way. And it got louder. ALOT louder. My only recommendation is to do a speaker swap and this thing will scream for you.

  • HARDCORE!!!

As reviewed by Jake Miles on 12/3/2012

Played guitar for nearly 7 years, and the Peavey 6505 has got to be the greatest combo for the price. Perfect for any small to medium sized gigs. Advantages: Has all of the gain a metal head could ever dream of. Perfect for Metallica, Avenged Sevenfold, or any metal player. This amp is also very easy to use, as long as you know the difference between pre and post gain. Tubes don't take very long to warm up either. Cons: This amp is a freakin heavy 60 watt. Probably 60-70 lbs, but that isn't too much an issue. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is because the clean channel. Really is kind of disappointing and I don't recommend this amp unless you don't use your clean channel a whole lot. That being said, I own an Ibanez RG2EX1 and I am sure there are some guitars that would make this clean channel better. Overall, this amp is perfect for any hard rock or metal player. This thing is a steal for the price. Buy it now and RAWK ON!!
