Delivers 120W of power and 3 voices for all-tube tonal control.

The Peavey 3120 high-gain guitar amplifier head is a versatile 3-channel amp with 120 watts of power and a trio of distinct voices capable of producing guitar tones from crisp and clean to total high-gain saturation.

The Peavey 3120 gives rock guitar players a triple-threat tone onslaught with generous amounts of gain, 120 watts of power, and 3 fully independent channels of all-tube, tone-shaping satisfaction. The Lead and Rhythm channels feature gain and volume controls and an active 3-band EQ, while the Clean channel offers nicely rounded tones crafted by a passive 3-band EQ and volume control. A global master volume governs the amount of power delivered by its 4 EL34 or 6L6GC power-amp tubes, while the Gain controls on the Lead and Rhythm channels adjust the amount of 12AX7 gain saturation.

The 3120 rear panel hosts a unique Peavey custom tone control feature, a 3-setting damping switch that alters speaker resonance to create tight, medium, and loose tones-from a precise punch for rhythmic attack to a full, widely resonant sound. Also on the amp head's rear panel is a footswitchable effects loop with dedicated Send and Return controls and a Line Out with Level control.

  • This is it.

Been looking at ditching the rack and going back to an amp head. Tried a number of Marshalls, Mesa Boogies, etc at my local Guitar Center. While these are nice amps, they didn't quite do it for me. Tried the 6505+ and thought I'd found the amp. Then I tried the 3120. WOW A little nicer cleans, two gain channels make this a little more versitile than it's sibling. It does lack the Presence and Resonance but the damping switch is more or less a combined presence and resonance control with three presets - tight, mid, and loose. While not a Fender, the cleans on this amp are still very nice. Was able to get a nice Jazzy tone as well as a near chimey tone that would sound great with a little chorus. Another reviewer commented that it didn't have the gain they had hoped for. Not sure what they are comparing this too but it has at least as much as the 6505 and more than I'd personally use (about 4 or 5 has you well in the metal camp). Most importantly though is the tone. Played a 7 string and the lows were nice and full without being boomy or muddy. Leads had that singing, smooth Vai-ish thing going with great articulation. Almost chose the 6505+ but this one won me over. Well done Peavey!

  • Best amp ive ever owned

As reviewed by Chris on 8/29/2009

i got this amp like a month ago and it is dripping metal. You can get any kind of distortion on this head, you can get a solid Zeppelin tone all the way to Slayer. And honestly it is cheap. I was looking to buy a Marshall and not only did this amp surpass its capabilities but it costed half as much. The only problem i have with this amp is its lack of a reverb feature but for like another $60 you can just buy a pedal so its all good. Gotta love peavey man

  • All Around Great Amp

As reviewed by A. Grubb on 7/21/2010

Played one at my local Guitar Center and totally fell in love with it. I was a little hesitant because I've always liked 6L6's over EL34's, but this thing totally rips. I might still be tempted to replace the stock tubes for 6L6's, which is a great feature about this amp, but I'm very impressed with the EL34's in general. There is SO much gain on the lead channel, that I only have the gain at half and even then it's still a little bit too much, even for crazier metal in the likes of Meshuggah and such. BUT, don't mistake all that for being muddy, it still remained super clear and defined, even with the gain cranked. Don't listen to the Marshall or Mesa/Boogie snobs that turn up their noses at Peavey, this amp and the 6505+ both run with the big dogs, no problem. The clean channel on this bad boy is also very impressive, especially for a high gain amp. It can be very deep and and dark sounding, or really bright and punchy. All of the channels EQ's are very responsive, making this amp super versatile. Peavey has struck gold once again with this head! Stop reading this and go play one!
