Soundcheck drums are as good as most any other Pearl drums. Pearl messed up by building a good set, and priceing them low. They know it and then discontinued them when they screwed up . These are very good quality drums even for the pro and deserve a much higher rateing than they have been getting! Any other reviews are bunk and bull!
I've had my soundcheck for about a year and a half now and it's been my only kit since I bought it. I would suggest getting this if you are just starting out. Keep in mind it's not going to be the best sounding kit but it teaches you things that expensive kits can't. I've learned SO much about tunning from this kit and am really good at it now. the only problem with it is the snare its pretty bad but buy yourself a vision snare drum for about $100 and your set for a while.
Got this drum kit last christmas and it looked sweet white w/ black. The bass drum should have something in it at all times or else it will mess with your foot work, a blanket or a pillow does great. After that's in, it's pretty good, has a good thud to it as well. the snare is honestly my favorite part to the kit, it has so much pop and crack to it, just adjust the snare wire to a certain point and get a Remo PowerstrokeX head and it's a beauty, recommend a dampening ring. the floor tom is really good, deep sound and it is easy to tune. The toms are okay, get a good tune with them and you're fine. The shells aren't exactly tough though, you can bend the bass drum with little amount of pressure, not that it really matters though, just a heads up.
This is the second kit that I have owned. I was disappointed to find out that they were discontinued by Pearl because I wanted to expand. I was able to find an 8 inch tom pack add on and purchased it. Overall, I am very happy with this kit. I replaced the stock heads and it sounds great. My only complaint would have to be the snare. It buzzes out of control when I play on the toms. I have tried different turnings and replaced the snare wires with little success. Moongels on the resonant heads help a little but still buzzes very loud. Probably gonna replace the whole snare.
This is my second set and its a lot better than my last one(sound percussion) which is obvious. i like pearl drums more than any other acoustic drum set. i did extensive research on the pearl forums (what i originally wanted) only to find out they had been discontinued. In my opinion, with the a little work, mainly on the snare, you should have it sounding exactly how you like it. I have it set up with Zildjian cymbals i got for 200$ and drum rings i purchased for like 10$ and it sounds better than ever. If you are a professional drummer,i am not, but if you are,i wouldn't get this but for a beginner like me. i HIGHLY recommend it.
I bought this kit because I used to drum and I previously sold all my stuff when I moved. And I just wanted to get started again... I had been saving up for a while and it was going to be even longer before i could by quality drums, cymbals, ect. and this kit is a big waste of money, pearl makes great drums, but there's reason why they discontinued this series. The snare is the worst, i tried everything i could to stop it from buzzing, different tuning, studio circles, duct tape, different snare wires, different heads, and it eventually broke down and i have to buy a new snare. The tom's are decent, and once you muffle the bass drum it sounds decent, i put a kickport on it and it sounds 10x better. But overall the quality is cheap, and its better to save your money.
