Several friends bought Peak stands, and I was impressed by the folding deck design. For years I have carried a solid, metal-deck stand. It works great, but it's bulky. The folding deck makes the entire stand (when collapsed) only slight larger than the folding base of my previous stands. And the plastic deck reduces the overall weight of the stand.

I purchased the 30/50 model because it lists a higher maximum height than the 20/40. I sometimes need a stand while standing, and being 6' 1", I want to be able to look ahead rather than looking down, especially if I need to watch a conductor. The 30/50 is taller than any stand I have used before. I can place the deck above my sightline if needed.

Another difference between the 30/50 and the 20/40 is the tripod base. The legs on these stands simply fold out. There is no clutch or screw to set the spread of the legs. That's not a problem at all. But what I like about the 30/50 is that the center post of the tripod sits lower to the ground than the 20/40. The lowers the center of gravity slightly. I also reduces the angle of the leg, which is convenient if I'm playing outside and need to put a foot on my stand to keep it from blowing away. The lighter deck also helps the stand from being top-heavy.

The stand sections adjust with clutches rather than screws. I prefer this for quick height changes when they are needed.

The stand includes a canvas carrying bag, which has enough extra room to hold a stand light and a few other items.

I still have my solid-deck stands, but the Peak has become my primary portable stand.

Overall, it's a good stand and works exactly as it is supposed to. I just with it was more durable.
This stand is a great concept. It folds up and fits into a portable bag for the gigging musican.
The problem is the quality. I've had this stand about two years and the center panel of the stand is now cracking. The feet on the legs cracked many months ago and the zipper on the carrying back stooped working properly months ago as well.
For the price, I suppose two years is a decent amount of time for this stand to last but I'm rating fairly low on value.

Comments about Peak Music Stands Portable Music Stand:

A few friends starting using this stand and I found it to be better than my little metal portable stand. It can hold some weight (like a book of music) not just a few sheets. Adjusts to every height you will need. It works well. It is compact and portable at a reasonable weight.

Comments about Peak Music Stands Portable Music Stand:

I've used this stand heavily in performances in Bulgaria and Israel, as well as here in the states. With all the overseas travel, the "set-ups" and "take-downs" for each performance, it has taken its fair share of abuse (and then some), and I've never had one problem with it...none! This is a very sturdy, durable, reliable and compact stand, and it is well worth the buy! I couldn't be more pleased.

Comments about Peak Music Stands Portable Music Stand:

I bought this and had it shipped over 6 years ago now. I've brought it out to gigs having used it about 450 times, and then the middle plastic folds started cracking. I still am able to slide the plastic music holder in place therefore securing even the broken parts, but it's not real strong. Wobbly actually. On the positive side it was nifty and easy to tote within the bag that came with. On the con side, besides the plastic breaking eventually due to wear, things don't generally slide together easy any more, and haven't for a while. When extending the legs out for example, the plastic rubbing on plastic gets caught and thus becomes hard, and time consuming to assemble. Also it pinches the fingers while messing with it. Extending the upper portion has the same hang-ups. I've probably used it another 100 times while broken, but hey I got to keep workin'. The finger pinching when putting it together has been really bothersome, no I most likely wouldn't buy it again. I've heard it can be epoxied to fix the breaks, but it may just end up in the dumpster. I certainly got some use out of it while it lasted.

Comments about Peak Music Stands Portable Music Stand:

This is a very good portable stand for the most part. The biggest drawback is the plastic is very flimsy and looks and feels cheap. The stand doesn't lay flat all the way and only when you put the bottom piece in place does it feel more secure. The 2 little plastic page holders are about as well made as a Fischer Price toy if not worse. I've put them up into place about 5 times and already it looks like it's going to break off.
It is fairly easy to put together and it is one of the best portable black stands I have ever used. I wish it could go higher though because it only goes up about 150 cm or so. Not good for tall people. Perhaps it was designed to be used in places where people are generally shorter. I don't know.

Just be careful when moving and transporting the stand because if you knock it over or bump it into something hard, the plastic can crack.
