Light and airy with sting and snap.

The SE Custom Semi-Hollow has the same basic appointments as the SE Custom - mahogany back, maple top, 22-fret wide-fat mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, and SE humbucking pickups. The mahogany body has a "canoe carve" with hollow wings and solid mahogany in the center from the tailpiece to the neck join. The addition of a hollow chamber and modern sound hole give it a musical midrange and internal reverb, making it a very light, comfortable, and versatile electric guitar.

Paul Reed Smith SE Custom Semi-Hollow Electric Guitar Features:

  • BODY:
  • Maple top and flame maple veneer with mahogany back
  • Semi-hollow body with single sound hole
  • NECK:
  • 25" scale length 22 fret mahogany neck with rosewood fretboard

PRS quality for the working Joe.

I have been a collector of guitars for 35 years and seen lots of crap some people call instruments. I own a PRS 22 Custom with birds and the whole nine yards, a Larivee C10 cutaway all the way down to my Brian Moore I2, and Fender Mexican Strats and Teles. Let me say that I am blown away by the beauty, fit and finish and playability of the new SE custom semi-hollowbody. Mine is the natural finish and looks like a peice of art. If I didn't know any better it could pass for a $1200 price tag without exaggeration. When I buy guitars I say "if it don't feel right, it ain't gonna sound right." This baby felt perfect from the first time I picked it up and sounded even better. The semi-hollowbody gives the sound a nice rich depth and can nearly sound like an acoustic at about half volume and cranked up gives a nice spanky sound when attacked assertively with a pick. I can see this one easily becoming a staple of my guitar harem. If I were to complain about anything it would be 1) The sound hole cutout could have been finished better as it is a bit rough (easily remedied though) and 2) The fretboard is stained almost black and would have been better looking in a more natural rosewood tone. Mine is the natural finish and looks like a piece of art. Next, I have my sights set on the new SE "One" model with the single soap bar pick up. Don't let the single P/U fool ya. That baby is sweet! Ten maybe the new PRS SE Paul Allender. Thanks to PRS for making it a priority to make higher quality guitars affordable for working stiffs like me.

Great Guitar!

This is a great guitar! I ordered it without having played this model since I have confidence in PRS. The finish (natural) is perfect. The set-up was perfect right out of the box. It is extremely fun to play. It has good tone plugged in and also good tone when it is not plugged in. For $600.00 this is a tremendous value for a quality semi-hollow body guitar.

Perhaps the favorite in my collection.

I have had this little sweetheart in my collection for just under a year. It is definitely a favorite. Mine is the natural finish. This guitar is stunningly beautiful. It is really feather light. The variety of sounds available from this carved-out mahogany jewel is incredible. Wonderful warm chords, brilliant sparkling leads, full jazzy comps, fierce growls and piercing screams. And every sound in it's repertoire is of the tonal quality that makes this guitar seem like a much, much more expensive instrument. The neck is very comfortable and fast. You have total access to the highest fret because of the set neck and carved high-side cut-out. The fit and finish is good. Although I have several Ibanezes in the same price range that have much better fit and finish. The bridge is very comfortable whether palm-muting or tearing-up due to a one piece bridge with a smooth surface that rolls off gently toward the bottom. I understand that it is the same custom PRS bridge used on the PRS American models. I have only one complaint. The tuners are not very good. When beginning to turn the tuner, you feel the resistance being overcome in a slight snap. Good tuners move off of rest very smoothly. Also, the tuners sometimes require an eighth of a turn before the pitch of the string changes. Even so, the guitar does stay in tune fairly well for a semi-hollow. I also have a request for Mr. Smith. Paul, could you offer a hard-shell case for this guitar? The gig-bag that comes with the guitar is one of the highest quality ones I've seen and definitely protects the guitar well. But I'd just prefer to keep this prized baby in a good hard-shell case.

Beautiful Guitar!!!

I have had this guitar for about 6 month now and I love it more everyday. It is equally good overdriven or clean and is versital enough for any style of music. It is very light weight and easy on the back. It is also beautiful to look at has inspired me to playing in new directions.
