This is the Parduba Harry James Double Cup flugelhorn mouthpiece. It is available in a variety of sizes. it is an easy to play, great sounding mouthpiece that makes upper register playing easier and more comfortable. The Harry James models have an even shallower first cup. Harry adapted this mouthpiece in 1938 when he played a gig across the street from Parduba's shop. He fell in love with it, and played it steadily. It is a great design, and you owe it to yourself to try one. It may be just the solution you have been looking for.
The unusual design of the Parduba "Double-Cup" mouthpiece enables a great ease of playing in the high register. This is noticeable the first time you try this mouthpiece. After adapting to the design, it is possible to attain excellent control, and a beautiful tone.
Although the cup appears to be very shallow, the lower half of the cup gives great length to the overall shape of this Double-Cup design which in turn produces a very brilliant yet rich melodic tone.
The scientific reaming of the top of the cup furnishes the shallow tones and they come with the greatest of ease. G comes true. High B-flat comes as effortless and with as great volume as G is ordinarily produced. The extreme high tones, which occur occasionally in ordinary music and frequently in solo playing or in difficult passages, are produced easily and with full volume because the shallow upper cup puts them within reach by increasing the performer's range.
