Comments about Paiste PST 7 Heavy Crash:
My previous model cracked after about 2.5 years of constant hard playing. after trying out and researching a few "upgrade" models from paiste, zildjian and sabian, they were all too bright/modern or too heavy to rock out on. So I'm buying another one of these pst 7 heavy crashes. I play in a few different loud rock bands ranging from heavy/hard to more pop oriented and this thing is excellent for crashes/accents as well as crashing/playing a beat on. it really mixes great with my bands' sounds as well as my other cymbals (all heavy or rock weight). it is explosive and bright but the tone is somewhat mellow compared to most "bright" crashes, has a timeless and somewhat neutral sound perfect for loud rock in my opinion. Great range in volume, too. It's pretty loud if you just crash it but if you play a fast ride beat or ring it, it can get REALLY loud for a good explosive moment in a song.
I've found some of the tone is lost when recording compared to my other cymabls but it's not a pro cymbal and for the price you aren't going to find a better comparable cymbal. it's nothing fancy but it's plenty loud and versatile. the crash cymbal equivalent to a steel stage snare drum. I have received a number of compliments from audience members and inquiries from drummers after playing live about this particular cymbal. perfect if you need something that fits right into a mix, provides clear accents, and compliments a variety of drums/cymabls, without standing out too much.
