OK, so it didn't cost allot of money and Mr Famous doesn't use one it still sounds great. Very pleasing tone quality. Just the right amount of wash and doesn't run away into white noise like so many crash cymbals do. Forget the "for the money" bit, I like this crash better than most at twice the price.

This crash WAS a good cymbal. I first had it in 2009 and I loved it, until it cracked two years later in may of 2011. I had a warranty and recieved a new one in june. The sound was awful, and was not the same as the old one. Just today i cracked it,I cracked this one in 5 MONTHS, as opposed to 2 YEARS. If you are a serious player do not get this, if you are a beginner then yes, I do not recommend this cymbal for hard hitters either.

Nice sounding cymbals

By christopher anderson

from Ann Arbor Michigan

I just bought a 16 and 18 both thin PST 5 at a music store used in excellent condition. I compaired them to a 17 inch Signature thin and they sounded just as good. What a find for my classic rock band I play out with. I have 2002's for my other cymbal's , including Soundedge Hi-Hat's. They match them perfectly.

annoying undertone

By Randy Smith

from Oklahoma City

Bought this after seeing a video on youtube comparing this with sabian, Wuhan, meinl, and zildjian. This was one of the few with no undertone. When mine arrived, it had a very annoying undertone. I also discovered you have to hit it very hard to get any projection and volume. I really don't like to hit cymbals that hard. Crash is decent and you don't hear the undertone with loud music. Be sure and hear this in person before you buy.

excellent for the price

By Johnny Robinson

from Alta Loma, CA

I bought a pst5 14 inch thin crash, a pst 5 16 inch thin crash and pst5 18 inch thin crash after not playing drums for 11 years. 3 years later, these things are still my main cymbals. The thing that attracted me to them was the fact that they were the same alloy formula as the 2002 line that Paiste has and was the choice of many pros. I also run a 16 medium thin alpha crash and an old Paiste sound formula 20 ride. These PST 5's were recommended to me by a friend and mentor drummer as a way to start off on a budget and still have a decent quality piece of bronze to hit and get a decent sound. These cymbals have gone above and beyond my expectations. They have gone on tour half way across the country and back, are versatile enough to play in top 40 cover bands playing and touring casino's where I played everything from funk, motown, latin, disco, rock, old school, classic rock, country, red dirt, and top 40 such as lady gaga etc. These cymbals also survived several orig rock bands playing a more modern rock or alt rock, and power pop punk and curently I am playing in a an orig straight ahead rock band similar to Buckcherry. I have also been the drummer for a few bands that landed record deals and as of now, I still use these PST 5's. These cymbals have been nothing less than stellar. They have held up to 5-7 nights of giggin 4 sets a night, and they still sound awesome, and after 3 years not one crack in one of them. Its my dirtly little secret that when I am playing in front of 8000 people that I am using a set of cymbals that arent the most expensive but give you that expensive sound. These cymbals are an outstanding value and deliver consistently night after night, year after year. I am now a converted Paiste man. if you are looking for a pro sound but have a beginners budget, my recommendation will always be the Paiste PST 5's. For the quality and the price, they cannot be beat.

A Decent Cymbal

By Alec Stenerson

from Rockford Il

I was very exited when I bought this cymbal (18 in.), it has a good tone and it fits the style of music i play. But unfortunately after a year of playing on it i found a crack in it. The cymbal is very well sounding until any damage is done. Than it just sounds terrible.

BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!5star!

By Collin

from Mattawan, MI

I am happy that i bought my 18" Paiste 5 thin crash cymbal. This cymbal, when i first hit it, the sound emitted from it just made me want to cry. it has a glorious bright tone, a shimmering, brilliant finish, and none of that gross ringing and decay you get with Zils, Sabians, and other entry-level cymbals. i have a friend with a 18" Zildjian A custom and my paiste beats it by far! Since it is a thin crash, you might get thrown off thinking that it will break easily. but the flexibility and the way it is made to bend when hit keeps the cymbal in it's shape. i play everything from stuff from Hillsong United to Devil wears prada and more and it'll fit most music styles. now the price might be a little high for what you would call an Entry-Level cymbal, but it's definitely worth it

WOW

By Grungerocker

from NJ

This cymbal is a BEAST. i have the 16" and 18" and they're clean, crisp, loud and it cuts through! And for the price you couldn't ask for more. Better than any B8's or zht's in my own opinion. In fact Paiste could raise the price by quite a bit and these cymbals would still be worth it! They sound professional. If you are thinking about buying one of these don't second guess yourself because these were a great buy!

Great Cymbal

By Taylor

from Pittsburgh, PA

I have two of these thin crashes (16" and 18") and they have a great sound to them and never cracked. I play hard music so I hit hard. Great projection and can be used for many music styles. I definitely recommend this cymbal.

sounds amazing but...

By josh

from Michigan

the sound i get out of this is amazing. yes im not the best of drummers out there but i have a nack for bad sound and a good quality sound and this puts out a good quality sound. its not very loud so if you are someone who is worried about sound you must get this. if you have the Paiste PST3 Crash/Ride tho, dont get the 18", they sound alike but the Crash/Ride has the ride sound to it (obviously). i suggest the 16" for anyone.
