PRS' new 22-fret, 25"-scale length Studio model electric guitar is a fresh, modern rendition of a traditional single-single-hum guitar set up with the beauty and brightness of a maple top. The possibilities are vast with PRSs proprietary 57/08 Narrowfield pickups in the middle and bass positions in conjunction with a 57/08 humbucking bridge pickup. Screaming lead tones, crisp rhythm tones and 5-way blade switch also enhance the flexibility of this guitar in the studio or on stage.
Other features include mahogany back and neck, V12 finish, rosewood fretboard, Pattern neck carve, 2011 birds, stoptail bridge, PRS locking tuners, nickel hardware, and redesigned lampshade knobs volume and push/pull tone controls.
The finish should enhance the look, sound, and feel of a guitar by accentuating the wood's inherent beauty and feel without hindering its natural resonance. And PRS Guitars' new "V12" finish does just that. Introduced at Experience PRS 2010, "V12" is a very thin, hard, and clear finish that will not crack or react with thinners. After roughly 12 years in development, it is halfway between acrylic and nitro but with a classic feel all its own. "PRS models with this new finish feel like old instruments," said Paul Reed Smith.
Pattern Neck Shape
Neck shapes have always been a high priority for us and a hallmark of our quality. A guitar should feel comfortable, like "home," as soon as you pick it up, and the neck is paramount to that connection. Perfected after years of prototyping, the new "Pattern" neck is an updated Wide Fat PRS neck style based on Paul's pre-factory design. These necks were found on the instruments built for Carlos Santana, Peter Frampton and Howard Leese from the late 70's to the mid 80's.

I received the guitar only a couple of weeks ago, but it has not been in the case since I first opened it. PRS quality is demonstrated from the tuning machines to the cable jack. I chose the amber black finish, and there were none in stock so the guitar had to be ordered from PRS. It was a long ten week wait for delivery of the unit. However, if time is an indication of quality I will have to say that I'm not complaining. The maple top uniformity, color, and finish is awesome. I did not order a ten-top, but the quality of this finish is such that you would think it was a ten. I've seen some splotchy looking pictures and this top does not look like that. The flame is very, very nice. This is the first PRS I've ever owned. The pattern neck, and fret spacing make this guitar the most playable axe I have. I have both a Tele and a Les Paul, and the Studio feels better, to me than the others. Can I certain guitar make you a better player? It may be my imagination, but I think this guitar's tone and playability can bring out more your best. The available tones from the two near field pickups, and the humbucker is both varied and inspiring. Combining the bridge and middle produces a Strat sounding sqwonk. The neck position can be smooth deep and thick, while the bridge humbucker can deliver all the crunch/metal overdrive you want. So far, I'm very satisfied and impressed with this guitar. I cannot find anything negative to say about it, so it gets five stars.
