Overview

Carlos Santana's influence as a PRS guitar player led to the development of Paul Reed Smith's SE electric guitar series, which launched in 2001. In honor of that legacy, PRS has created the all-new SE Santana. The SE Santana is the first guitar in the SE series offered with a 24-1/2" scale length and is also the first SE created using the same silhouette as Carlos's revered American-made PRS models. The wide-fat mahogany neck promotes fleet fingering on the 22 frets adorned with "old school" birds while PRS-designed humbuckers offer clear, well-defined tones from clean, to crunch, to hot, full-crank mode. The PRS-designed tuners and PRS-designed tremolo keep you in tune no more how adventuresome your playing may become. This guitar and its appointments honor Santana's skill and style better than ever and offer players great quality and value. Case Sold Separately.

Very Nice Guitar Center!

By LH

from Palm Bay, FL

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I ordered the PRS SE Santana in black from Guitar Center 5 minutes before midnight on New Years eve for $613 out the door (thanks to their $100 off expiring a few minutes later). It finally arrived last night 1/18/11 in the pouring rain at 7pm. I opened the box, tuned it up and played for a couple hours. I played this afternoon for about 6 hours - it's still in tune. The action is low, the intonation is spot on, the pickups are beautiful clean and bite when cranked up. The glossy wide/fat neck is perfectly straight and smooth while the frets are dressed and polished very nice. Now I'm a satisfied player waiting for another great coupon from Guitar Center. Thank you.

Pure PRS

By TerryKathFan

from New York, NY

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

Thus guitar is awesome. In the same league with American PRS guitars. You can spend 4 Thousand on an American but I will tell you the hardware and woods appear to be out of the PRS bin But you have to play it, the neck is fast but substantial and you can feel the body vibrate like a tuning fork. It resonates with tone. Pickups will sing your chords and the tremolo is great design and the guitar does not go out of tune. Give it a test run.

For the Santana fan with smaller wallets

By Jeff webb

from Portage, indiana

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

This little guitar is giant on tone. It is a fabulous piece paying homage to one of the best guitarists of all time it is simply amazing when switched to the neck pickup it sounds just like a guitar bearing Carlos santanas name should sound. The neck is a little fat and takes a little bit to get used to but overall the guitar is well built and such a deal... A lot is made about the SE series being manufactured in Korea. The craftsmanship is just as evident on ths guitar as it is on my custom 22 built in the USA. It will be a part of my life as long as I have fingers and the will. I am a huge Santana fan and it is an honor to own a piece of santanas heart and soul

Sweet guitar

By James Bassler

from El Cajon, CA.

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I played 25 different guitars at Guitar Center while shopping, and when I picked this one up I knew I had to buy it. It has such crisp clear sound and the strings are very close to the frets, which makes it super easy to move around, and it's not hard on the fingers. I feel like the value of this guitar is much greater than what I paid. It feels like a custom made guitar just for me. If you buy this you won't be disappointed. They had a $150 off coupon which took the sting out of the price. I bought the Santana yellow, which has really pretty woodwork and craftsmanship, but I wish there were a larger variety of colors available than just four. I will not need to trade up from this guitar in the future. Nothing could come close.

Unbelievable guitar for an import, excellent playability.

By James Harmon

from San Antonio, TX

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I was looking for a guitar to half compliment and half oppose my '93 Hamer special. I was playing some SG's, and one of the sales people pointed out that this PRS played very well. I will be honest that I was a tad skeptical about a Korean PRS, but all that was blown out the window once I starting playing this guitar. I am honestly amazed that this is an import. From the way it looks to the way it plays, all around it is amazing. Put this guitar against the high-end Ephiphone's, and you will quickly see there is no comparison. The PRS pick-ups in this thing go from SG highs to Les Paul lows with the flip of the toggle switch. I do wish there were separate tone knobs for each pick-up, but I can easily live without them because of everything else this guitar has. I play rock of all era's and some Americana, and this guitar can do it all. I even play this through my Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, and it's amazing. If you buy this guitar, you will not be let down.

Best guitar for the price

By Angel Lopez

from Zapopan, Jalisco

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

Just got the PRS SE Santana, and i can't be more satisfied with all the features this guitar has in, the sound of the signature pickups are incredible for all the styles of music, not just santana bluesy style, you can play anything you want with it. The neck is confortable and faster than the gibson les paul's neck, the tremolo stays in tune very well although it has no locks on it. The paint on it its just beatiful.

Blown Away

By DAVID ZOBEL

from Redding, CA

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I got this guitar eight months ago. I gig regularly with it - and I hardly ever break out my Fender Strats. My Fernandes with sustainer and my shredder Ibanez are both gathering dust. I have an old "lawsuit" Les Paul copy that is a great guitar, but it can't stand up to the Santana SE. This axe is so resonant I can get sweet and controllable feedback at moderate volume and the tone shift is quiet and distinct with the pick-up toggle. Smooth neck, perfectly finished frets. It is clearly of better value and construction than the MSRP suggests. And it's as beautiful as it's bigger siblings at PRS. Tremolo is smooth - from subtle surf vibrato to a Jimmy dive bomb - I use it for both regularly and it stays closer to tune than either of my Strats. Would I get another? Just did. My wife ordered one of the Limited Edition quilted blue ones for me. Merry Christmas to me!

Love This Baby

By Steve Weidemann

from Lake Forest

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

Ordered this online "blind" without actually having played it - based on its looks and rave reviews. The price was right, and I even got it with another $100 bucks knocked off during a recent sale. Timing is everything. I opted for the Orange which is more of a yellow-gold, and more beautiful than I expected. (Check out the photo I uploaded which shows off the flame maple top.) Great size and balance, and plays easily. Even though there is only 1 volume and 1 tone control, with a 3-way switch between the HBs, I really like the variety of sounds I get. I actually prefer having only 2-controls over the 4 I have on my Epiphone Dot. Added a set of Cobalts on this one and I expect to play this one for a long time. I'm not a pro, but I feel like one when I've got this one strapped on.

Sweet Guitar- Hard to beat for the $$$

By Mark Hunt

from Benicia, CA

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I was looking for an alternative to my Epiphone Les Paul Standard that would be lighter, have a different sound, and hopefully be easier to play. I had played my son's PRS SE Singlecut and really liked the feel of the neck and the lighter weight...and after reading the reviews, decided to try one of these. It's a beautiful guitar, I have the Orange and it is striking. Features-wise, it seems like a cross between a Gibson Les Paul Junior and a Stratocaster. The body, set neck and humbucker pickups are Gibson like, the bridge with tremolo bar, knob placement and set up, and pickup switch are Fender-like. The tone is very adjustable, far more than my Les Paul. Small changes really change the sound. The neck pickup is fat and can approximate the "Les Paul- type" sound, the bridge pickup is much hotter and cuts through for solos. For me, I need to reduce the tone on the bridge pickup, where on my Les Paul, I max both tones. It doesn't quite capture the Les Paul tone, but you can get close. You can play all the way up the neck without any restrictions and the knob placement makes it easy change volume or tone, or pickup. The tone goes from super clean and bell like, to a little break-up or full-on distortion. It is a perfect weight- has some presence, but not back breaking like a couple hours with the Les Paul. The finish was good, but not perfect. Some of the black binding on the neck is not evenly colored, but not bad enough to send it back. Also, mine ended up needing a set up. At first, I had a buzz in the 1st and 2nd fret on the low E and A strings, I adjusted the truss rod, but I couldn't quite get rid of it. My local shop did it and didn't even charge the whole set up cost because they said it didn't need much. Now, it plays with no buzzing anywhere. I have only had it about two months, so it's probably too early to talk about reliability. For the money, this guitar is a steal! To get my Les Paul sounding good, it took a set up, new pick-ups (Golden Age Parsons Street ALNICO II's- which I also recommend), new CTS pots and new wiring- about $250.00 worth of upgrades. No upgrades needed here, maybe a set up like I needed, and you are off. Even the stock strings are pretty decent and the gig back is really good quality. Much better than the Gibson or the Fender bags.

A SOLID GUITAR

By David DuVal

from VA in the USA

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I ordered my Santana SE from another internet co. in Santana yellow. I got it and the first thing I noticed was that the gig bag is very sturdy and eye pleasing (not a hard case but pretty good). The next thing I noticed was some type of flaw in the finish. I thought it was dust on the back and sides and tried to wipe it off but to my displeasure it was some type of discoloration in the wood. Not a normal looking grain but it looked like black blotches throughout the wood. Other than that, the intonation was spot on. Two of the tuners had a lose screw on them, no biggie, took about 15 seconds to tighten them but it needs to be mentioned. The neck was smooth and comfortable to play but the 22nd fret on the high e and b was dead. The top of the guitar's finish was beautiful. I play mostly at church, clean mostly through my Custom Vibrolux. The pickups were ok (if you like to work on your gear, it's a good oportunity to upgrade the pups). They seemed to get pretty muddy on the lows and really brassy on the highs (typical for mid level and lowe end humbuckers). Over all it's a good guitar but I would say it's an intermediate level one, not for pros or someone who gigs regularly. I actually returned mine for a refund due to the finish flaw and would have exchanged it for another but the retailer was out of Santana yellow so I just sent it back. That was pretty disappointing. I will probably just save up and get a US made PRS. But if you cant't afford to do that, I say go for it. I'm sure the finish flaw was just a quality control glitch since all of the reviews I've read on this guitar are positive.

Worth every penny!

By BILL HINOSTROZA

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

This is my first expensive guitar and my 2nd overall. My first was a fender squier from a starter pack. That starter pack was horrible, I did not get the sound I wanted etc. As, time passed by I received the money to buy my dream guitar which is this!! If your looking to buy this guitar it is a must!! Well I would try it out first and see how you like it because I only picked it up to play carlos santana songs with my vox vt20+ amp. It is good for blues, jazz, soft rock, rock etc it is not really a hard rock, metal type of guitar so I wouldn't recommend to people who play that type of genre. Overall, it is well worth it. It even comes with a really good gig bag with all of its accessories like truss rod, whammy bar etc.

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

Okay its very easy to give this guitar 5 stars, I just got it delivered 30 minutes ago and right outta the box this axe is setup with low action and the tone just oozes sex! I love Carlos Santana and I play a lot of his music with my band I can easy get his early tone and modern tone. The tremolo system is really good too you can dive and still stay in tune! I got the Santana yellow and I've gotta say the finish is just immaculate! I'm definitely gigging with this bad boy tomorrow at 2 shows, ill take my les Paul (Gibson) but as a back up! Anyways you can buy one of these for well under a grand, or you can go spend well OVER a grand for an American PRS.. IMOHO this is one of the best guitars I've ever owned!

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I would have rather had regular strings on this guitar. I replaced them with Elixir 10's and the sound just popped. It made my sound so much sweeter.
I will purchase another but it would be the American made Paul Reed Smith. This one does feel like a toy, but has the quality and sound of an American made guitar.

A SWEET GUITAR!!!

By Paul

from Pasadena, CA

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I just bought my Santana Yellow SE and it is such a sweet guitar. When I saw it at GC, I just had to try it. It felt so good in my hands and it played so nice. I plugged it into a small Marshall 15 watt amp and it sounded amazing. Since Carlos Santana is one of 2 guitarists that influenced me to play guitar (Hendrix the other); I had to have it. I've look at PRS guitars in the past, but thought they were too expensive. Now, not only is it affordable, but it is a signature instrument of my mentor! I always had Floyd Rose locking tremolo systems on all my guitars, so I wasn't sure if the tremolo on the PRS would stay in tune. However, for not being locked down, it stays in tune pretty well. I'm truly happy my Santana SE, you will be too when you try one.

Wow

By Dan Purinton

from Wethersfield CT

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I just purchased this guitar (orange) as a backup to my Les Paul Standard. I kinda feel bad 'cause the LP is spending alot of time in the case. The PRS is absolutely sick. The sustain and tone are incredible, and it does not go out of tune. The wide neck was a little wierd compared to the 60's slim neck I'm used to, but after a couple of hours you realize that the wide neck is even easier to play. You couldn't buy a better guitar for the money (or even more money)

Amazing

By Lenny

from Ekron, Ky

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

Been playing for a while now and must say that recent quality and pricing of foreign guitars is shaming American made guitars. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this guitar. Every detail is meticulous. Tuners are tight, the bridge/saddle are top quality, the tone and volume knobs are Alpha brand. As for the Santana model, I'd probably prefer the 25" scale over the 24.5" but that's just a preference, so put at least 10 gague strings on, so the won't feel too sloppy. As for tone, I replaced the stock pikcups with a set of Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded set, and I can't tell the difference!!! The stock pickups sound just as good, but I hate the two tone bobbins from an aesthetics perspective, so I'll leave the all black Duncans in, but WOW!! I've never heard foreign made pickups sound so clear and tight. Worth every penny!!!!
