Carlos Santana's influence as a PRS guitar player led to the development of Paul Reed Smith's SE electric guitar series, which launched in 2001. In honor of that legacy, PRS has created the all-new SE Santana. The SE Santana is the first guitar in the SE series offered with a 24-1/2" scale length and is also the first SE created using the same silhouette as Carlos's revered American-made PRS models. The wide-fat mahogany neck promotes fleet fingering on the 22 frets adorned with "old school" birds while PRS-designed humbuckers offer clear, well-defined tones from clean, to crunch, to hot, full-crank mode. The PRS-designed tuners and PRS-designed tremolo keep you in tune no more how adventuresome your playing may become. This guitar and its appointments honor Santana's skill and style better than ever and offer players great quality and value. Case Sold Separately.

I have been playing since 1968. I am currently in a power trio trying to emulate Gov't Mule. I own two Gibsons(Les Paul Standard & 61 reissue SG) and a Fender (Coronada Stratocaster).

I recieved the PRS Santana SE yesterday. I have been unable to put it down. I am impressed with the quality of workmanship that has went into this guitar. It is actually less flawless than my SG(pick gaurd not fitted properly).

The intonation was dead on out of the box. I adjusted the truss bar and the individual saddles to get the super low action that I prefer. It only took 5 minutes to adjust the action and reset the intonation.

I like the fact that the first thing you see in the documentation is instructions on how to adjust the trust rod if the action is not to your liking. I was planning on installing Schaller strap locks, however upon closer examination the strap retintion knobs are at least 1.5 the size of the strap retention knobs on both my Fender and Gibson.

The vibrato seems to be much more responsive than the vibrato on my Strat. The sound is sweet and the guitar is simply beautiful. For an off shore made instrument I am truly amazed at the quality of workmanship.

I am a 20yr plus guitarist who owns quality guitars from Gibson USA, Fender USA and G&L USA.

You need to put me in the minority, but this guitar has to be the very worst value for money in an import.
I was after a 2 humbucker double cut guitar so picked one of these up new at local GC.
ok fine it looks pretty, and once setup properly (which it wasn't) and with a new nut (which it needed), it is nice to play..but that the end of the good news.
It is very unbalanced, being tail heavy so if you practice while seated its NOT comfortable, and its just the weakest, thinnest poorest excuse of a guitar tone i have ever heard.. and i am talking anaemic. Could this be improved with new SD pups?..sure..but then its a pricey guitar.

These guitars are very poor value for money for imports given Epiphone Les Pauls and G&L Tribute guitars are far cheaper, better sounding and hence much better deals...

After two weeks i tossed this in the closet and bought a used Les Paul DC for not much more than what i paid for this excuse of a guitar...

just not a good guitar at all...

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I have owned this beautiful guitar for over 5 years now and I love it. It is very easy to play and use and it feels so smooth. I have done some slight modifications to it but it still is a beautiful and solid instrument and recommend it to anyone with a medium price range that is looking for a higher end guitar.

Caveat emptor - Let the buyer beware.

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I really don't feel it's right reviewing this guitar, because the salesman and I had a great deal of miscommunication. I really didn't want this model; it was a mistake. Nothing against Santana, I was listening to him when he played Gibson SG's, and didn't wear hats to cover baldness. I would have kept the guitar if it hadn't been for the color. There was a picture that made the guitar look like a pleasant shade of blue. In reality, it looked like a lab experiment and went back before it was tuned.

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I had bought another PRS, a SE 24, that was amazing. I have some very good guitars including an elite strat, a really nice tele, and a couple of Les Pauls. I also have a BB King Lucille, a flying V, and an Epiphone Sheraton. The SE 24 was so nice I thought I would try the Santana, but had read that the neck was "fat and wide" and wasn't sure I'd like it. So, I went a little farther than my usual Guitar Center and played it. Luckily I brought my trade in's so I did not have to leave and come back. This thing is a dream to play--PRS may be my new favorite guitar.

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I would have rather had regular strings on this guitar. I replaced them with Elixir 10's and the sound just popped. It made my sound so much sweeter.
I will purchase another but it would be the American made Paul Reed Smith. This one does feel like a toy, but has the quality and sound of an American made guitar.

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

As for "over rated". How can you over rate a guitar at this price range? You want over rated buy any Gibson for two the three times more. I have had four and will never ever buy another one. I could write pages on the quality.
Now this guitar for the money is a ripper. No frets sticking out at the ends to bloody your hand. Paint and finish is flawless, no drips runs and sags. Pickups on mine are 7.9 and 10.1 ohms. It neck width and feel is very comfortable. The tuners have an over sized feel and seem just fine. I was considering a solid bridge but the PRS type tremolo is pretty solid. With out the trem arm you can rock a little tremolo with the heel of your hand. I no longer buy the expensive stuff for bar room playing. One thing to mention. With just a simple OD pedal you will get the never ending Santana sustain any time you want it. And you do have three distinct tones with the three way switch. In short it could be the best money I have spent on a guitar period. I may buy another PSR something.

Very nice guitar in all aspects that really matter. It sounds good, plays easily, looks absolutely gorgeous in red, with a nice tone. My only complaint with it is that it is uncomfortable to hold and play while sitting... which is most of the time, for me.

Comments about PRS SE Santana Electric Guitar:

I already had 6 guitars that consist of a Fender Strat Jimmy Vaughn, Fender American Deluxe Strat and Tele, Gibson Les Paul Class Gold top 1960 reissue, Epiphone Custom model made in Japan with two P-90s, and a Ibanez S series. My only reason for giving the kind of guitars I have was to establish that I know a little about the quality of guitars. When you take into consideration that the American Deluxe Strat and Telle are now going for a lot, the Les Paul was more than they were and not even being made now, there is a lot of money in just those 3 guitars. Because of that, I was always under the impression that there was no such thing as a non-American made guitar under $1200.00 worth having. After reading one article after another about the PRS SE series, and seeing how low they were priced I didn't think they could be sold that cheap and still be really good. Then an add caught my attention that talked about PRS making a Santana model SE with the birds on the neck. With nothing more to do I decided to go and try one out. All of my guitars are made well and play great but I paid a high price for them. When I picked up the PRS SE Santana and started playing it over one of the amps, I couldn't believe the price tag on this guitar. Not only does it look like a guitar that would cost more, it plays like a much higher priced brand. The pickups on this are amazing, and when you switch from the neck to the bridge or both pickups you can really hear a difference. Because the neck is a 50s style it takes a little getting used to but once you do it is amazing on how well it plays. This is a must try guitar for any type of player, and after trying it out I purchased it in a heartbeat. When I got home I plugged it in my Marshall JVM410H and the different sounds I could get blew me away. I wouldn't tell PRS this but I would even pay more for a guitar like the SE Santana. It is a great addition to the guitars I already have and much lower in cost.

Love the feel of the neck and balance of the instrument. After locking down the bridge, filing the nut, adjusting the truss and saddles, installing 11 gauge strings and changing out those ugly orange knobs it's as sweet as it can be. Great buy!
