Got one of these about a year ago and it's never let out on me. Guitar sounds great, plays great, and it feels so natural. I mean, this thing feels like a guitar worth a lot more than $650 when you pick it up and play it. The first thing you notice when you pick this thing up is that it's light. Some people may not like this, but it's definitely easier to handle when playing standing up. The guitar has a crisp sound to it, and has a really nice bite to it- it adds to the sound whatever style you're playing. This is THE best guitar out there for less than $700, no doubt. The guitar has given me no issues (and I bought mine used) over the last year I've had it. Handles well tuned down too, for those interested in the extended range. Definitely would recommend this guitar for anybody. Good luck to you guys, hope this review helps everybody out.

The (almost) axe of my dreams!

By Jerrell

from Manhattan, KS

I've shopping for a PRS for a couple of years but could never just quite bring myself to pull the trigger on a big budget guitar. Then along came the SE and my dreams (and wallet) were suddenly satisfied!!! I actually bought the Custom24 sight unseen and neck unplayed. I tried a couple of other SE to check workmanship, electronics, etc. and was completely astounded at the quality, sound, and playability of a 'budget-priced' PRS. Since you can't custom order the neck/fretboard profile of an SE and I hadn't had a chance to play the Wide-Thin, I was a bit nervous but I soon discovered that my fears were totally and completely unfounded. The Wide-Thin is amazing, not to mention the fact that the guitar was barely out of tune when I opened the box! Two VERY minor issues.... The trem is amazing but you have to graphite or otherwise lube the nut immediately or tuning problems and string breakage will haunt you. Personally, I just used pencil lead because that is what I had at hand and it worked amazingly well, although a commercial product like Big Bends Nut Sauce is probably what I will use in the future. Secondly, the taper of the volume pot is not quite linear. This may not be a consistent problem with the SE series at all but simply that I got a less than stellar one. Even so, the pot works well and is completely noiseless. A very minor flaw which I am more than happy to live with. All in all, if you lust for PRS tonal glory and quality, but your banker says that you should stick to Teisco Del Rey, the SE is made for you...and your banker...

What's not to like?

By Jeffrey Fisher

from Suffern, NY

I bought this guitar for my 15 year old son who has since outgrown his basic Fender Squire guitar. I honestly had never heard of this company because all I know are the hyped guitar brands. What I did quickly learn is that Epiphone Les Paul doesn't sound like the Les Paul that costs $2000. The PRS SE Custom 24 plays like a guitar that should cost more. It plays a consistent warm tone> (a la Carlos Santana Smooth) When matched with a tube amp such as Bugera or Vox will be most impressed....

poor set up

By Lee Marett

from Farmington, New Mexico

Beautiful guitar, terrible set up. Strings buzzing, intonation not set, neck not adjusted properly. Won't stay in tune. Its a good thing that I know how to do my own set ups. When set up properly these guitars really play nice.

Great guitar minor glitches

By Todd Dionne

from Lockhart, TX

This is a fantastic guitar for the money. I absolutely love the neck, the weight and the balance. I bought the Tobacco Sunburst version and the finish is nice. The bridge pickup is very bright, but that is what I was looking personally looking for. It may not suit some players taste, especially those playing metal, etc. I bought the guitar in store and after playing it knew there would have to be some adjustments. As a matter of fact this guitar was so badly set up ( hopefully not by a GC tech) I imagine that is why it hadn't sold. Come to find out many players are having trouble with the guitar not staying in tune. There are various PRS forums about this issue. I found that my issue was the nut. After inspecting it closely the string guides in the nut were not wide enough for the E A D G strings to slide without binding. I resolved the issue myself by purchasing a micro file set from LOWE's for 2.50 and the finest metal sand paper I could find. I gingerly and gradually widened each string guide and finished with very light sanding. If you do this make sure that you do make the guides deeper! This fix absolutely solved my issue and now after lowering the saddles to their lowest height, adjusting the trem height and a minor neck tweek the action is low and smooth and this has a buttery feel and now never goes out of tune no matter how much I use the trem. Obviously, from all the people reporting the same issue there is a manufacturing/quality control issue regarding the nut, but I would start with this simple fix before replacing saddles, etc or the trem itself. Very happy with this guitar and covers a range of musical styles. I recommend even though I had those initial issues and 5 stars despite because it was such a simple fix.

Favorite Guitar That I Own

By SAMUEL RAISOR

from Texas

I ordered my PRS SE Custom 24 used from my local Guitar Center for $400 and have loved it. Its thin neck makes it easy to play barre cords, the pickups handle any genre from metal to worship to classical, the tremolo bridge stays in tune, and the Royal Blue is just beautiful. The quality matches some of the American Gibsons and Fenders, and it defines the ?best bang for your buck.? I use it for gigs and it pulls through perfectly. You cannot go wrong with this guitar. Ranging from $400 to $700, depending if you buy it new or used, this PRS cannot be beaten for its price. It is my favorite guitar and it will continue to hold that spot for many years to come. The PRS SE Custom 24 easily gets 5 out of 5 stars.

Incredible Guitar and Super Versatile

By matthew gamboa

from California

This guitar is amazing, and feels Incredible. I play Many styles ( everything from Jazz to metal to classical) and this guitar has the feel and tone to do it all. Stays in tune very well and came with great action. Handles a ton of distortion very well and is always clean. For the price you really cannot beat this guitar. Not to even mention how stunning the "Vintage Sunburst" finish looks. Catches everyone and anyone's eyes.

Beautiful Guitar for those on a budget

By Zach Perry

from Michigan

I recently bought a Vintage Sunburst PRS SE Custom 24 because I've always dreamed of owning a PRS, but could never find one for a decent price. This marks my 8th guitar, and it is easily my new favorite guitar in my collection. The thin neck and low action allows my smaller hands to play this guitar like it was built for me. The PRS Humbuckers allow for a very wide range of bright tones to smooth bluesy riffs. The sustain on this beauty is insane. For a guitar player on a budget, this guitar is ideal for any type of music. And it is beautiful no matter what color you get it in.

Yes, you are on this page for a good reason.. Incredible value

By Dennis Procopio

from St Pete Florida

Beautiful guitar. Incredible value. I've played my share of PRS in my day, and you definitely get a great PRS experience with this SE Custom 24. You get a mahogany body, nicely carved maple top, rosewood fretboard, and birds. The birds are nice too, not plastic junk inlays.. This thing seriously looks like alot of American Custom 24's I've played, and quite frankly its more comfortable and plays better. Come's equipped with .009's, and I think I'm going to leave them on for a while. Alot of players are changing out the nut and tuners for locking tuners...a quite affordable upgrade, but not necessary upon arrival. Plays beautifully, really nice tone unplugged, versatile 25" scale length. Nice tone range from warm to crunchy. Great intonation upon delivery. PRS SE division is not messing around.
