There is finally an affordable guitar for all those sensitive-eared, tonal freaks out there?.. The PRS SE Custom is just that Guitar! I actually purchased mine (the grayish black model with tremolo system) from Guitar Center, being that I could actually place my grubby little paws on the instrument and feel as well as hear the tonal resonance. I closely compared the PRS with an Epiphone Les Paul Standard?. Though the Epiphone Les Paul was a great guitar, pleasing to the eye and ear, it just didn?t have the smooth, mellow, rich, creamy, tonal taste of the PRS. I highly recommend the PRS SE Custom to a moderate level or even professional level guitarist. You will not be disappointed my good friends! (By the way, I would also recommend using a Monster instrument cable. They really bring out the sonic capabilities of the guitar?) Keep jammin? Trey

I will get right to the point instead of writing your typical never ending novel describing the strengths and weaknesses of the se custom. IMHO, the se custom is not even close to an American PRS or an Epiphone LesPaul in terms of tone. It sounds average, nothing more, nothing less. I bought this guitar thinking I would get at least a fraction of a real PRS' tone, and all I received was an average guitar with a cool name, a top as flat as a pancake (boring man), and tone that sounds nothing short of mediocre. The flattop is just bland, although the finish is moderately attractive. You just cannot justify the price for the tone received. The Epiphone LesPaul buries the se custom in tone. I would suggest buying a cheaper guitar that packs a harder punch or saving up for the real thing, an American PRS. Trust me, the novelty of the se custom will wear off after a month or so.

No regrets, but there is room for improvement

Comments about PRS SE Custom 22 Electric Guitar:

I have owned this guitar for something to effect of about 5 years now. It has been a great guitar and has held up very well. I generally play it through a dual-head setup using a MusicMan HD130 and Mesa Triple Rectifier. The only thing that I don't like about the SOUND of this guitar is that the pickups are so incredibly "hot". I use my MusicMan head for clean tones and generally find that, while my Fender Jaguar sounds crystal clear, the PRS SE sounds like I still have the gain cranked up. This is a dual-humbucker Jag too, not single coils. I've never been able to get a GREAT clear clean sound out of it. The guitar is, however, awesome for distortion. It sounds amazing through my Mesa. It also plays very very well. Quality-wise I found it to be acceptable, but nowhere near perfect. An imperfection in the wood of my headstock eventually made a small chunk break off. I never smashed the headstock into anything, but one day I just happened to notice there was a piece gone and I couldn't even find it to glue it back on. We're talking a VERY small piece on the back of the taller point, so it was no big deal. I just colored the bare wood red and made it a bit less noticable.Secondly, one of my moon inlays has fallen out... or... in? I can't really tell which. Either way, my 7th fret inlay is recessed. You can't notice this while playing, but it's still a real bummer.I am about to dive into a fun restoration project with it and upgrade to some pro-level PRS humbuckers, Phase II tuners, and play around with some wood veneers to refinish the headstock. I'm going to look into filling in that 7th fret as well. We'll see how it goes! I'm excited to breate some "new life" into the instrument since it used to be my favorite guitar until I bought my Jag.All-in-all it's not perfect, but I don't regret buying it. I'll keep it (spruce it up a bit) and pass it down to my kid one day.

Fixer Upper

Comments about PRS SE Custom 22 Electric Guitar:

Well this guitar, as it is, you get an average guitar for the price range. tweek it a little and you get the more expensive PRS sound.. start with the pickups put something with umphhh, like an EVH pickup, EMG new x series or mighty mite c4 pickups, put a bone nut, cahnge to a locking tuner, shield the electronic compartment if you are using a passive pickup, shield the pickups too. fool around with capacitors and resistors. put a 680pf capacitor and a 150k resistor..follow this and you will get a huitar that sounds better than the PRS guitars that cost 5 or 6 times more, trust me on this....

Exactly What I expected

Comments about PRS SE Custom 22 Electric Guitar:

I just received this guitar last night as an early Christmas gift and I simply cannot stop playing it. It is very easy to play and an enormous step up from my former guitar which was a ragged Squire Strat. I am playing it throgh my Marshall half stack and it sounds wonderful. The pick up selector offers various different tones though I haven't much played with it and the knobs yet. Very good guitar, I suggest it to anyone who is looking to buy in this price range.

IN LOVE with this guitar

By Drake

Comments about PRS SE Custom 22 Electric Guitar:

...in a non wierd way. The PRS SE Custom is absolutly amazing. I've had it for about 3 months now and love to play it whenever I can. For the longest time, I was debating getting the 22, or 24, but the both sound amazing. I chose the 22, 1-for the Cherry Sunburst, and 2-it seemed to have a little better tone. One thing that inparticular that is awesome with this guitar is that although it only has one tone knob, you can drastically change the tone by moving it just a little. It is awesome. I recommend buying the 22 with a tremolo bridge, but if you prefer the stop tail, i'm sure it would sound great with that too. Though I have NOT played it with a whammy bar, I imagine one small problem would be it coming out of tune a bit,as mine sometimes does just with a few whole step bends. I plan to get locking tuners though pretty soon so it will help with that problem tremendously. Overall, this guitar makes me happy. I play it with a Boss ME-50 pedal and a small, but decent sounding Marshall MG 15 watt amp. This guitar sounds good with clean sounds, heavy sounds, bluesy sounds, WHATEVER sound you are looking for.

BUY THIS GUITAR

By gabrielflo

Comments about PRS SE Custom 22 Electric Guitar:

I was shopping for my first electric guitar and really thought I was going to end up buying a Epiphone Les Paul Standerd or Custom because I had heard so much about the legendary les pauls and how great they were plus alot of them were on sale and were a reasonable price. That is until I ran into this PRS. I origanally was was going to buy the prs se single cut with a trem for about 665 and it was the same price as this guitar which I got without the trem. The prs se looked and sounded great as well as the epi les pauls I compared them to but nothing sounded as smooth and as clean and felt as perfect and comfortable to play as this guitar. Way lighter than the epi les pauls and had was more sound and sustain than the prs se singlecut. This is an amazing guitar it looks beautiful plays anything you want it to from clean acoustic sounds to hardcore heavy metal. This guitar blew all others in and above its price range outta the water, big thanks to the guitar center in ft.worth they gave me a great deal and ended up saving 120 dollars off the advertised price in store and with that extra 120 I bought a sprider line 6 amp new cables and a road runner guitar case. THANKS PRS FOR MAKING AN AWESOME GUITAR AND THANKS GUITAR CENTER FOR SAVING ME A BUNDLE

Great guitar, better price

By Jefemuzki

Comments about PRS SE Custom 22 Electric Guitar:

This guitar is probably the best guitar for the price on the market. I bought mine about 9 months ago and I just love it. I play through a Marshall AVT 150 and Mesa dual rectifier, and I get really thick, fat distortion, lots of power, and the cleans are great too, even for bluesy stuff. The playability is great, it will take beginners to that next level, and it will make experienced players kick themselves for spending twice this much for a guitar that doesn't play as well or sound as good. Sounds great on recordings too. Great job PRS.

Dream on a budget

Comments about PRS SE Custom 22 Electric Guitar:

OK, so obviously this isn't an American PRS, and it doesn't sound exactly like one, but considering the other guitars in this price range, it's a no brainer. The Pickups provide a singing clean tone and, while perhaps not ideal for death metal, easily hold their own in the hard rock genre. the range of sounds I've gotten range from soulfully bluesy, to roaring rock, I cannot reccomend this guitar enough.

This guitar is great,I had it for about 1 year now, and hasn't disappointed me yet. It has a really nice thick tone to it. The sound that comes out of it blows me away. This guitar is worth it to buy, better than any other guitar I had before. It gets you and tone you want, and pleases you everytime.

Who wants a Gibson after this???

By prsrocks1568

Comments about PRS SE Custom 22 Electric Guitar:

If you're thinking about buying anything other than this guitar, don't. This is absolutley all you will ever need in a guitar.I play mainly in a youth group band, don't judge that. We have a 6 peice band and play some pretty hard stuff, as well as extremly soft at times. I can get every sound I want with this. I trade from this PRS to a slightly worn Aria. I'll use the Aria maily for just HEAVY medal, mainly because it has a whammy bar. But I mostly use this. WOW. The only thing you have to do with this guitar is change the strings semi often, especially if you play it alot, it can then become very easy to be out of tune. The cherry color looks just gorgeous, and all the hardware is fantastic.
