Comments about PRS SE Angelus Standard Piezo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

This is the first guitar I have ever purchased. That being said, I did play trumpet professionally in a band about 25 years ago and do have musical training and understanding.

I initially did research on line an YouTubed hours of reviews of many luthiers and then watched an interview with Paul Reed Smith. The man is so passionate about making a good instrument as a tool for personal artistic impression. I had a fairly strict budget of $1K and found th Alex Lifeson series within that range. I called my local store and found they had one in stock.

When got there I tried out several guitars in the store, including the Lifeson, ranging from the $3K to $500 range just to understand the differing construction and equipment of each as well as tonal qualities. I was amazed to find that some of the high end ones didn't really sound as good as they cost. I asked about the Angelus SE series and while they did not have one they said I could order it. They also told me if I didn't like it they would refund or credit it to one that I did like.

When it came in a few days later I was impressed. These are made in Korea in order to keep the price down. You really can't tell though! The tone is clear and the sustain is unreal! They had a $2K Martin that couldn't even come close! I realize that everyone has their personal preference but every guitar player that was there was visibly amazed at this thing. I may consider the rosewood version at a later date just because!

Comments about PRS SE Angelus Standard Piezo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I bought a mahogany SE Standard several years ago (sounds better than their more-expensive Rosewood model). This mahogany SE is the best electric-acoustic guitar on the market under $1,000, and maybe under $1,500. It's bright, warm, evenly balanced, and the projection and sustain are terrific. It's plenty loud for playing in an average room acoustically. But this guitar shines under amplification, too. It's become my go-to stage guitar for a variety of reasons. The tuners are high quality, and this guitar stays in tune through a set. The 3-band, on-board equalizer allows for quick and precise tone changes when switching from strumming to finger-picking songs (no more climbing off my stool to adjust the mixer between songs). The electronics on the SE Standard are high quality and very responsive. The guitar sounds natural when amplified. It is light, and a smaller size than my full-sized dreadnaughts, so it's comfortable to play for hours. It has an easy-to-play fast neck, and would probably be well suited for someone with smaller hands (just a little tight for my paws). The initial factory set-up is fine for most people playing below the 5th fret, but I spent $20 to have a luthier set it up so it plays just as easily at the 12th fret. It doesn't lose its resonance at the higher frets, which is remarkable in this price range (many sound like ukes above fret 7). It comes with a well-fitted, amply padded, hard case (nice touch). The case exterior scuffs fairly easily, but it does a great job at protecting the guitar.

Equal to guitars costing twice the price

    By

    from Hurst, TX

    Pros

    • Crisp Even Tone
    • good setup
    • Great Looking Instrument
    • Great Volume Projection
    • Well constructed

    Cons

      Best Uses

      • Fingerstyle

Comments about PRS SE Angelus Standard Piezo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I play this unplugged using Fingerstyle technique and small group settings a lot. It has exceptional volume and projection for its size. It also sounds very good plugged in and I have used it to good effect for recording on a digital four track recorder. It has a very clear bass voice that's pronounced without being "boomy".

I have been playing acoustic guitars for over 50 years and this one is by far the best guitar for the money that I have ever played.

      prs angelus se

      By

Comments about PRS SE Angelus Standard Piezo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

What a fabulous guitar! The sound is incredible. The thing that surprised me the most was how loud it is. I have only tried the electronics at the store when I picked it up, but the tuner is actually unnecessary. I tuned it at the store and once when I brought it home and it hasn't gone out of tune yet. The only complaint with mine was just a tiny flaw in the finish where the neck meets the body, but I was purposely trying to find a flaw.

      ANGELUS SE STANDARD

      By

      from Rohnert Park, CA

Comments about PRS SE Angelus Standard Piezo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

I was very critical of these guitars when I first played them at a GC in Sacramento but decided to give the ANGELUS a second chance and I'm glad I did. I also decided to let this guitar stand on its own merits rather than compare it to other guitar makers . The on board tuner and electronics are very nice making this guitar one that allows for doing the "live" playing I want to do. I would use it for playing solo or in a band. The price is nice and the sound is there. Again go to a GC and try them out because every guitar seems to have a voice of its own.

      Believe the hype

      By

      from Kansas

Comments about PRS SE Angelus Standard Piezo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

There has been a lot of hype built up around the PRS SE acoustics. I have read many reviews and watched many videos on them. Every review and video claims the PRS SE Angelus to be an amazing guitar worth twice the asking price. Anytime I hear this it is usually too good to be true. This is not at all true with this guitar. It is truly amazing. It sounds incredible, it feels fantastic to play and it looks great. I would put it in the same category as guitars from Martin and Taylor that are in the $1500 price range. It is better than any Gibson guitar I have ever played. This shows the attention to detail and excellence that PRS has even with their overseas products.

      Best bang for your bucks

      By

      from Bangor, Maine

Comments about PRS SE Angelus Standard Piezo Acoustic-Electric Guitar:

My Angelus SE just arrived 2 days ago. I have to say that I was a little apprehensive about buying an acoustic online without ever trying it out. Let alone shipping it from Colorado to Maine (the only one available)But knowing the quality specs of a PRS, I rolled the dice. Right out of the box this guitar was not just beautiful, but it sounds amazing. Plugged in it has an absolutely beautiful tone. Very happy about this purchase. Cant imaging doing better for this price range.
