Overview

The S2 Standard 22 is a bare-bones workhorse guitar for players looking for vintage tone and style with modern reliability and versatility. From high gain punk and metal to low, bassy blues, the S2 Standard 22 has it covered.

The S2 Standard 22 is a workhorse guitar for gigging musicians. With an all mahogany body and 22-fret set mahogany neck, this guitar is warm and sweet, making it toneful enough to stand on its own plugged straight into an amplifier and solid enough to serve as a great platform for even the most modern pedal board set up. The #7 pickups are clear and can cover the tonal spectrum from high gain punk and metal to low, bassy blues. The push/pull tone control allows for coil tapping for added versatility.

For the player who wants to cover a lot of ground with their music, the S2 Standard 22 is a perfect choice.

Comments about PRS S2 Standard 22 Bird Inlays Electric Guitar:

An extremely well-made (in the USA) guitar, with perfect set up and intonation straight out of the box. I opted for the "S2 standard 22 with bird inlays" in tobacco sunburst finish, which looks stunning in real life. The guitar has several well thought-out features including: contoured control knobs, pickup coil splitting, machine head locks, graphite nut, large strap-lock buttons, and an excellent vibrato system. The guitar is well balanced and has a very comfortable neck with easy access to the top frets. To my ears, the pickups have a rich biting sound that cuts through a band mix very easily; I would place the sound mid-way between a Fender Telecaster and a Gibson SG (with humbuckers).

I own a wide spectrum of electric guitars (e.g., Gibson SG, Gibson LP, Fender Stratocaster, Fender Telecaster, Rickenbaker 360), which I appreciate not only for their different sounds but also for their different feels and looks. However, if I was forced to keep only one of them, I think I would be tempted to keep the PRS. Although it cost less than most of my other guitars (a bargain really), it has the best ergonomics, shows impeccable craftsmanship, and has the most versatile sound. I only have one negative comment - although the guitar came with a well-padded PRS gig bag I would have preferred a hard-shell case.

Comments about PRS S2 Standard 22 Bird Inlays Electric Guitar:

I absolutely adore this guitar. It sounds incredible, the craftsmanship is second to none, and it is totally gorgeous. I own guitars by Fender, Martin, and Gibson, and I think it can hang with all of them. You can play virtually any genre with it. The coil tap makes for a good variety of tones from one instrument. It is rock solid in tune thanks to the locking tuners. My only two complaints are that it required pro set-up in order to really be fantastic. The action was really high when I got it. Some players may like it that high, but I wanted it much lower. Also, while the gig bag is great and high quality, it would have been nice to get a hardshell case with it. Both of those complaints are easily remedied though. Now that the guitar is set-up properly, it is amazing. I plan to get a hardshell case for it in time. I am completely blown away by this guitar.
