The PRS McCarty model pays homage to a legacy of innovation. As the President of Gibson during a true golden era of guitar building (1950-1966), Ted McCarty was a pioneer of the electric guitar and musical instrument industry. In the late 1980’s, Paul Reed Smith called on Ted to consult with him on guitar design and production techniques. He not only served as Paul’s mentor but became a great friend of Paul and everyone he met at PRS. In 1994, PRS released the first McCarty, an instrument that incorporated the full spectrum of techniques and knowledge Paul had gained from Ted as well as his own experiences as a guitar builder. It is in honor of Ted McCarty – his knowledge, his friendship, and his memory – that PRS reintroduces the McCarty model. The PRS McCarty model features a slightly thicker back for enhanced tone and sustain and the new 58/15 treble and bass pickups, which were personally designed by Paul Reed Smith. 58/15’s are a vintage style pickup with exceptional clarity and focused midrange. Additional appointments include a push/pull tone control with a 3-way toggle pickup switch for a complete palette of tones, a bound rosewood fretboard, and PRS stoptail bridge.

Comments about PRS McCarty Carved Flame Maple Top Bird Inlays:
Overall, this is the King of the PRS line, in my opinion. I've waited a long time for this guitar and it was well worth the wait. This is an excellent musical instrument!
Straight out of the box, I could hear the harmonics jumping off the fretboard.
The setup done at the factory was spot on. I played it for two days with out re-tuning. The finish and assembly is impeccable, as I expected. And the Honey stain is beautiful, bringing out the beautiful character of the Flame Maple top. Beautiful one piece Mahogany back one piece mahogany neck. With just clear finish it is a sight to see.
It took a day or so to get used to the Pattern neck carve shape, but now it feels like home.
Plugged into a Marshall DSL, I noticed a big difference in tone over my other guitars. It sounded full and rich with a sweetness to the top end. But overall felt balanced. Previously, I had to use a compressor to get this type of tone.
Overdriven, I was floored. Thick bass and low mids and singing highs. The higher mid range was a bit hairy for me, but was soon fixed with a bit of amp tweaking. Again, floored.
I was sure how I was going to like the 58/15 pickups, but that went away immediately after hearing them sing.
I couldn't be happier with another guitar.
Thankfully I was able to use a 20% discount coupon with the purchase and couple that with 36 months, no interest promo.
