The Custom 24 is the original PRS—the guitar Paul Reed Smith took to his first tradeshow in 1985. A perennial favorite with musicians, this model has been updated for 2011 with V12 finish, a Pattern Regular mahogany neck with an East Indian rosewood fretboard, and uncovered 59/09 pickups wired for the redesigned PRS 5-way blade switch, which offers a dual humbucker option for the first time
Other features include mahogany neck, V12 finish, rosewood fretboard, "pattern regular neck", 2011 birds, PRS tremolo bridge, and PRS low-mass locking tuners.
Finish should enhance the look, sound, and feel of a guitar by accentuating the wood's inherent beauty and feel without hindering its natural resonance. And PRS Guitars' new "V12" finish does just that. Introduced at Experience PRS 2010, "V12" is a very thin, hard, and clear finish that will not crack or react with thinners. After roughly 12 years in development, it is halfway between acrylic and nitro but with a classic feel all its own. "PRS models with this new finish feel like old instruments," said Paul Reed Smith.
Pattern Regular Shape
Neck shapes have always been a high priority for PRS and a hallmark of PRS quality. A guitar should feel comfortable, like "home," as soon as you pick it up, and the neck is paramount to that connection. The new "Pattern Regular" neck shape is similar to the traditional PRS regular neck found on guitars made in the late 80's at PRS's former Virginia Avenue location.
This new neck shape reflects modern tooling and programming that allows PRS to even more preciously shape and consistently reproduce their necks. Includes case.

This Custom 24 is my second guitar from PRS. The craftmanship on this instrument (as well as on my other PRS guitar) is outstanding. The color (Evergreen - which is very dark with waves of green in it) is classy and subtle; the 5 way pick up switch is great for playing most genres of music like blues, rock, metal, country or jazz; the guitar is light and has great tone. The guitar's set up was perfect right out of the box - no need to have anything adjusted. I have small hands and the fretboard is the right width- not too wide or fat like some other guitar models out there. Only drawback is the price...this is a very expensive guitar made here in the United States. That being said, the price tag is still hard to swallow but worth it as long as you play the guitar and not let it sit on a stand and collect dust. If you are looking for an beautifully made guitar with versatility, great tone and light weight that will last you a lifetime, consider the Custom 24 :)
