Comments about PRS Custom 22 Flame Top Electric Guitar with Pattern Neck:

My band days are done but I still like to go in the basement and noodle around. As I've gotten better jobs I go through nicer guitars every few years. I have my favorite Strat from my teen days but can't seem to settle on its backup/main player. I think I have ended my search with this guitar, because not only do I play it, but I also just hold it and stare at it. Obviously the first thing you notice is the finish - I don't think anyone will argue that PRS does great work. When you hold the guitar, you're aware of it, but it doesn't feel heavy. It's also contoured nicely. As for sound - the 57/08 pickups may be what sold me on this. I'm not a fan of "hot" pickups, more the classics and this falls into it. If you're looking for a shredding, more treble sound, this isn't your guitar. But if you're into the more slow, expressive style like Santana, this totally delivers. I'm not a Santana fan, but that style of playing just flows from this guitar. I find myself on the neck pickup with the tone down all the time now. I haven't even played this through my Boss pedals yet, just my Fender tube amp distortion, and I'm totally happy.
It cost me a pretty penny, but I feel like I've worked up to this after 25 years of going through guitars of different quality. This really has been the only one that I sit and think about coming home to play. There are a lot of gripes about PRS costs reflecting their original handmade nature, but actually I think they're just about worth it. Clearly a lot of thought, design and hard work has gone into my guitar.
I think someone who appreciates some forward thinking but still needs some vintage will love this guitar. I went into GC that day interested in a new Les Paul and man am I glad I ended up with this Custom 22. There is no comparison in quality and sound. PRS doesn't seem to do any inferior product, and that's all I got when I tested out 5 different LP's. I think PRS is now where Gibson used to be, if that makes sense. Worth the extra $$$
