A PRS with a newly developed burst finish that brings the gorgeous curly maple tops to life.

The Smokeburst McCarty electric guitar features a custom-grade curly maple top, wide/fat mahogany neck, mahogany back, and a 22-fret East Indian rosewood fretboard adorned with abalone bird inlays. The Smokeburst uses the PRS 25" scale length and has a double-cutaway body, stoptail bridge, and vintage-style tuners. PRS has incorporated the highly acclaimed 1957/2008 pickups into this McCarty model along with a 3-way toggle pickup selector, and a push/pull coil-splitting tone control. The 1957/2008 pickups allow players to achieve both vintage and modern sounds. This guitar is finished in a beautiful and unique double sunburst with a special nitro topcoat that highlights the gorgeous maple top.

  • In a league of its own!

If you're looking for a guitar that's impeccably crafted, reliable and sounds like nothing else, take a look at the PRS McCarty. I don't know how PRS does it, but they have such high quality control and it shows. Very rarely can you pick up guitars off of a rack and have them play right and sound right without running into issues like sharp fret ends, misaligned binding, finish issues, improperly cut nuts... the list goes on and on. I've never had a problem with McCarties. The wide/fat neck is reminiscent of the classic Fender "soft V" necks and is very comfortable (even for a guy like me that has big hands and long fingers). The 25'' scale length really sets these apart. It gives the guitar more clarity than it's shorter scale competition like the Gibson Les Paul, but keeps it from having the snap of guitars with longer scale lengths like Fender Telecasters. PRS has really found a nice middle ground here and it makes for a really toneful instrument that you can enjoy playing without fighting it. The bridge is the best design I've come across. It looks great (very reminiscent of the classic wraptail bridge), adds a good bit of sustain and also intonates properly (unlike many wraptail designs). I've been through quite a few boutique guitar makers as well as the typical standard production stuff and the PRS McCarty is easily about as good as it gets for a solidbody electric guitar with humbuckers.

  • PRS guitars RULE

As reviewed by John Steskal on 5/24/2010

I bought a used PRS guitar about 8 years ago and it was the best guitar I ever played. I have owned Les Paul, Fender, Ibanez, Charvel, Carvin etc... and PRS custom guitars are just the best. The playability is amazing and the pick-ups have oodles of tone. Need I say more?.. other then, when you get a chance to buy a PRS guitar, do not pass it up.
