PRS P22 Flame Maple Top Electric Guitar (107604019)
Availability:

The first piezo-equipped solidbody guitar from Paul Reed Smith.

Paul Reed Smith Guitars is proud to announce the P22, the company’s first piezo-equipped solidbody guitar. The P22 comes standard with a flamed maple top, mahogany back, mahogany neck with a 22 fret rosewood fingerboard, and a redesigned PRS/LR Baggs piezo system. PRS and LR Baggs partnered more than a decade ago to design the piezo system found in PRS’s popular hollowbody models.

This new system retains the same circuit design as the existing system, giving the P22 the same tonal authenticity and real world practicality as PRS hollowbody guitars. The redesign of the board itself yielded a version that is more than 60% smaller than the original PRS/LR Baggs system, allowing it to comfortably inhabit a solidbody guitar. Uncovered 53/10 pickups round out this guitar’s specifications and help define the P22’s voice.

Piezo systems have long allowed guitarists the versatility of wielding both acoustic and electric guitar tones in one instrument. The PRS Hollowbody II and Singlecut Hollowbody II both come standard with the original PRS/LR Baggs piezo and have achieved a great level of popularity in PRS Guitars’ product line. The addition of a solidbody model will give musicians a new and unique tool to add to their own lineup.

  • Unlike any other guitar!

As reviewed by DAVID HORVATH on 8/9/2012

PRS P22 Black Teal Flame top, 53/10 pickups, Piezo. Although I've only owned this guitar for a day now, I can say that this guitar is unlike any guitar I've ever played. It is a keeper for sure. I don't normally leave reviews for guitars that I buy, but today, I'm making an exception. I own a dozen guitars from Gibson, PRS, and Fender. The P22 is by far, the coolest out of all of them. It can cover a variety of genres. From rock and blues to jazz. I play it through a Marshall JVM 205H with a 1960AV 4x12 and a Marshall AS100D acoustic amp. The guitar has separate jacks. One for the Magnetic pickups and one for the Piezo pickup. To get the most out of this guitar, I would suggest that you use the Piezo jack with an acoustic amp and the Magnetic jack with a guitar amp. There are a lot of ways to use this guitar. The guitar has two separate volume controls. One allows you to blend how much acoustic effect you would like mixed with the guitar signal. You can even adjust the volume knob of the magnetic pickups to blend the guitar signal with the acoustic tones. This comes in handy when over driven tones are being mixed with acoustic tones. The mini toggle activates the Piezo in the up position, both magnetic and piezo in the middle position, and magnetic only in the down position. The 5 way toggle switch gives you a variety of pickup selections to choose from. Where this guitar really shines is it's acoustic tone. I was blown away. I don't know how they did it, but they are going to sell a ton of these. A solid body guitar that sounds like an acoustic guitar and can shred with the best of them. No joke! Try one out for yourself. I guarantee you'll be going home with it like I did. Anyone you who has a need of playing acoustic parts along with over driven parts in a song has to add this guitar to it's arsenal. It looks beautiful, plays great, and sounds amazing. I have no regrets. Neither will you.

  • A Must Have.

As reviewed by MIKE SOLINA on 8/16/2013

I have been playing for serveral years now and have collected a variety of hi quality( Gibson Les Paul,Martin, etc) guitars a in quest to find that 'just the right sound'. This proved to be a task more difficult than expected since the type music I play (christian rock and worship) calls for quite a wide tonal pallette to cover everything properly. My hunt for that 'sound' has come to an end. The first time I plugged in the P22 from the Guitar Center wall I knew my search was over. The sounds that eminated from this guitar blew me away. I played songs that call for intense lead licks to subtle background harmonies. Being able to split pickups and blend pickups opened up whole new vistas on the electric side. Then I tried the acoustic side with one little flip of a switch. Oh my God. I fear that in live on stage settings my Martin DC-16RGTE may never see the light of day again. I have always been very particular on the acoustics sounding correct in on-stage presentations with sound being able punch through when necessary but not be overstated. I am here to tell that the P22 can handle anything that is asked of it in the acoustic and electric arenas. I was fortunate to pick up a platinum series in faded gray. Beautiful. The workmanship and fit and finish blow away anthing I saw. It was ready to hit the stage right out of the box. I am so looking forward to exploring the tonal possibilities of this axe in the coming years. If you are considering adding one of these to your arsenal, think no longer. All the controls are convenient located with the volume and tone pots being of perfect size and shape. Something that I think is important to add is the operating of the stiches are quite. No annoying clicking or popping for either the 5 way pickup or the acoustic/electric piezo switch. The tone pot has a real nice rolloff on the treble. Very confortable on the weight with it in coming in between 7 and 8 lbs.

  • Unbelievable!!!!

As reviewed by MIKE SOLINA on 8/5/2013

I have been playing guitar for a number years and own several quality electrics and acoustics, ie;Gibson Les Pauls, Martin, etc. This, in a very few strums, has quickly jumped to the top as my 'go to' axe. The fit and finish screams quality. The tonal diversity is beyond compare. I can go from an ear drum splitting electric lead to a knock your socks off acoustic part with just a flip of a switch and it will do so with the beautiful clarity you would expect from a PRS. There is a reason a great number of professional musicians are switching to PRS. This is a good example of why. This is my first PRS and I was concerned over the neck profile. I can tell you the pattern regular neck is very comfortable and fast and feels like an old friend. The fact that you can also blend the acoustic and electric sounds is an added bonus and provides a number of tones to wet appetite and open up a whole new spectrum of sounds. If it were possible to give a rating of more than 5, I would. If you are interested in widening your playing options you need a P22.
