PRS NF3 Maple Neck Electric Guitar (H68789)
Availability:

A versatile modern classic with a new finish, neck shape, and tremolo.

Named after its versatile pickup configuration (3 pickups paired with a 5-way blade switch), the NF3 utilizes the modern pickup technology of PRS Narrowfield pickups. Narrowfields use the same wire as PRS' coveted 57/08 pickups, but are narrower pole to pole and deeper front to back. The result is a new-sounding pickup system with exceptional clarity. Paired with a "pattern regular" bolt-on neck and flat body design, the NF3 is a modern classic.

The NF3 incorporates the following new features:

V12 Finish
Finish should enhance the look, sound, and feel of a guitar by accentuating the wood's inherent beauty and feel without hindering its natural resonance. And PRS Guitars' new "V12" finish does just that. Introduced at Experience PRS 2010, "V12" is a very thin, hard, and clear finish that will not crack or react with thinners. After roughly 12 years in development, it is halfway between acrylic and nitro but with a classic feel all its own. "PRS models with this new finish feel like old instruments," said Paul Reed Smith.

Pattern Regular Neck Shape
Neck shapes have always been a high priority for PRS and a hallmark of their quality. A guitar should feel comfortable, like "home," as soon as you pick it up, and the neck is paramount to that connection. The new "Pattern Regular" neck shape is similar to the traditional PRS regular neck found on guitars made in the late '80s at PRS' former Virginia Avenue location.

This new neck shape reflects modern tooling and programming that allows PRS to even more preciously shape and consistently reproduce their necks.

PRS Tremolo with Steel Components
The bridge plays a crucial role in the tone of a guitar by transferring the string's vibrations to the tonewood. When executed well, the bridge will enhance the wood's natural resonance. The PRS Tremolo with steel components offers a clear, expansive tone that sounds especially pleasing in guitars with single-coils. Includes case.

  • Very Versatile and Very Easy to Play!!

As reviewed by Robert Sneed on 4/24/2012

This is truly an amazing under-the-radar guitar. First of alll the three Narrowfield pick-ups are outstanding. If you dial the volume down to 4-5, you get a great Strat chime, and if you dial it up around 10, you get a great P90 crunch. Very versatile, and the tone is to die for! Also, I can't say enough about the unfinished Maple neck. Quite possibly the easiest neck to play of any guitar I own or have played. Just an overall wonderful guitar. PRS killed on this one!

  • BADA BING BADA PRS!!!!!

As reviewed by Joey Vazquez on 11/9/2011

This guitar bridges the gap between the flexibility of a prs and the bluesy sound of a strat. The Narrowfield pickups are probably the icing on the cake for this axe. The sound allows you to switch from very soft blues to funk and to rock. For those who are looking for a wide variety of tone, this is the guitar for you. My Dad was a professional musician and he is not easily impressed and he said that this guitar was excellent. That was good enough for me. lol

  • Holy Grail of Tone

As reviewed by George Adams on 12/13/2012

I bought this guitar used for a steal at Guitar Center in Paramus, NJ. Having spotted it the week prior I wasn't immediately captivated by it at first because it was amongst the other PRS models many of which are sleeker and sexier. Let me start by saying that in the past year I have gone thru 7 other guitars looking for my sound: Gibson Les Paul, PRS CE 24, Ibanez RG 570, Ibanez JS 1000, Carvin Holdsworth, Washburn USA Custom and a Carvin Bolt. Upon picking it up, the neck (Pattern Regular) felt right at home in my hands. Next I plugged it into a Fender tube amp. Right off the bat I could tell this was going to be special. Just by making the slightest adjustments of volume/tone and 5 way toggle switch I was able to get out of the Narrowfield pickups: Fender single coil chime, twang, P90 midrange and full throttle double humbucker. Everything from Jimi to Stevie Ray to EVH with little to no effort. Paul Reed Smith has let the proverbial genie out of the bottle with the Narrowfield pickups.I couldn't believe my ears-all these sounds out of one guitar-simply amazing! The look and feel of the overall instrument has pure vintage craftsmanship written all over it. Absolutely stunning good looks. I snatched it up right then and there on the apot and took her home. Plugged it up and played with it for 4 hours straight-kept its tuning remarkably well even with the tremolo bar. You can actually hear the individul notes ringing out in both open chords as well as barre chords. Sweeping arpeggios up and down the neck was effortless. I even tried some dropped D tuning stuff and it sounded just as amazing! All I can say is that this guitar is in a class all of its own. Its the total package all rolled up into one: vintage looks, great craftsmanship, and amazing playability and sound. This is what a guitar is supposed to sound like and after all these years of playing can't believe that such an instrument actually exists!! The palette of sounds that this guitar is capable is extremely vast. Highly recommend it to anyone who has been looking for an instrument that is actually capable of expressing your musical ideas!!
