The Pro-Mark Mike Portnoy Autograph Series Drumstick is a hickory stick that is slightly smaller in diameter than a hickory 5A with a 747 taper and a nylon tip. As the drummer for the band Dream Theater, Mike skillfully steers the course though an inventive blend of melodic rock and odd meters.

These are not bad, but they are easy to drop. I still prefer the Pro-mark 747s. These sticks are just a little to skinny and they wear out fast. The pink writing is a little fancy, but if Portnoy designed them they must be good. By the way Mike Portnoy is not the drummer for Dream Theater and has not been for years. He is the drummer for the Winery Dogs. Rock on!!
So I got these stick this past Christmas. The first time I played with them, I noticed a lot of dents in them. And just today, at band practice with a few friends, one of my sticks snapped almost completely in half and on the other stick, the head snapped off. If you're gonna be playing hard, like myself, I don't suggest these sticks. Aside from the bad thing about these sticks, they are extremely light and good for rolls and sound good on the cymbals with the head. But they don't last long if you play hard!
I tried the joey jordison sticks compaired to these . mikes sticks are lighter their nylon and there better i love these sticks there really great for solo and performence
These are finely made sticks. My only issue is that they are nylon-tipped. Otherwise, these are the lightest sticks I've ever held that weren't made for jazz and I can really dance around the kit because of that. The nylon tips produce a sound that just seems unnatural to me, call me a purist. I just love the good old wood sound. Try these anyway. You may dig 'em.
I have used these sticks for the past year now and nothing compares to them. They are a tad longer than regular sticks are and much lighter for great control. I strongly recommend these sticks to everybody.
These sticks are very comfortble, after yrs. of using 5B's, its amazing the respond I get out of these, like we all know and trust mike portnoy's tallent, Well, he carried it out to his "one of a kind drumsticks."I stongly recomend these, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT! ROCK ON!
These sticks are great. I normally used vic firth 5B's, but it was to heavy and the weight made the stick seem smaller. If you are a drummer that likes to experiment with extreme drum fills or even solos I recommend this stick. It's such a light stick, however with its length seeming a little longer it opens up a few more doors towards your style of playing. I got my first pair on the day of recording with my band Call To Arms. Normally you would not change anything on a day like that, but i was able to do much more creative things with this stick versus any other stick i have ever used. They feel great and they are well worth the buy.
These sticks are absolutely amazing!! I have been playing for over 10 years and have yet to play with such great sticks. They are perfect for people who want to hit everything hard and fast and with a drummer such as Mike Portnoy using them, you just can't loose.
Wow where to start off with...these sticks are really nice and feel great. Perfect pitch and balance to make any player happy. Although these sticks are nice they fall to peices in DAYS!! I dont know if its just pro-marks wood but vic firth's sticks last months on end for me. I wish these sticks would just last longer.
These are the sticks I've been looking for since I really got into playing. They're not too light, and they're not too heavy. They have the perfect lenth and diameter also. The great thing about them is that the butt end is like a between a 5A and 5B, but the taper doen't get "skinny" towards the tip, this adds a little more weight and strentgh that you can't get with the 5A. Portnoy's my favorite, so to have his signature and the DT symbol on them is cool too. Go buy em! They're worth your money.
