I play drums in a band. I had been using the stock snare for a while, and realized it was time for an upgrade. I bought this because of its low price. It is an amazing snare!!! The pop and crack of it is great. For a stock skin, it lasts a long time. I am very happy with this snare drum, and I'm glad I bought it.

I didn't expect too much. I was quite surprised! It's obvious this is a cheap drum. There is an obvious seam inside the shell. The finish is more like satin as opposed to brilliant chrome. The snares and heads are marginal...at best. Once you dump the snares and replace the heads, this thing actually performs quite well! It rings too much for my taste, but it is easily controlled with a moongel or two. I use it as a side snare, my son uses it as his primary snare. Either way, this is a decent affordable snare.

Amazing snare for the price!

By Ryan Trawick

from Michigan

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

The moment my stick hit the head of this snare I fell in love. Then I tightened her up a little more and fell even more in love. I bought this as just a practice snare to beat up but the more I played I realized I had to add this to my kit. The sound is loud with a great attack. I have only heard great things about this snare when I play and people can't believe when I tell them the price. I am extremely happy with this purchase and highly recommend it.

Awesome!

By Brandon Loera

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

This snare is great, if you want that high pitched sound with your drums set and nice pop every time you hit then you got the right drum. I extremely recommend this snare drum because it goes great with my set. I myself added on a REMO Weatherking Emporer X drum head, which gives this snare a better pop.

Nice Snare

By Lee Davis

from Acworth, GA

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I've been looking for a second snare to add some diversity to my kit. I was skeptical of a snare in this price range and material but I saw all the other reviews and thought they can't all be wrong. This snare sounds great! I have a 7.5x14 Maple Legend Snare for my main snare. This PDP gives me an excellent contrast. Cosmetically, it's not the flashiest looking snare but it sits in the back and blends in pretty good with the rest of my set. In the end, it's the sound that matters and it provided the sound I was looking for. Give it a try. You can always return it if you don't like it. I give it a 4 only for the looks.

Cool sound!

By Wyatt

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I just bought this snare today and I love it! I didn't like the way the stock head sounded so I put a Remo coated ambassador on it and I tuned it up nice and tight and it gets a nice pop sound. I had to put a little tape on it because there was some ringing but other than that, no issues as of yet.

Loud and proud!!!

By Matt Davis

from Evansville, Indiana

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

After hearing great reviews I got the snare. I was tired of my flat old Tama and wanted something snappy to give more life to my playing. I had planned on using it as a secondary/main. Used it for church and while everyone I heard from said the sound was great some people(older people, lol) thought it was too loud, and to be honest my ears where killing me afterwards. Tuned it down a little, put a dampener ring on and it's fine now. It feels like it increased the speed of my whole set and if tuned properly can be used as a great main. I've been playing for over 14 years and I gotta say, this is the liveliest, most fun snare I've ever owned, and the cheapest too.

Pop goes the PDP

By Daniel

from Ann Arbor MI

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

Let me just say I've been using this at church since I got it and it sounds better than our other drummer's $400 dollar Pork Pie. I tune the bottom tight, the top tight, then I de-tune one or two of the batter lugs until I get the crack I'm looking for. For the price you can't do better than this, and that's not an exaggeration, but it and see for yourself.

Worth every penny (for me)

By Pat Maweini

from Happyville, MO

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

After reading all the reviews on here and other sites I decided to purchase this snare from my local Guitar Center and I must say I am pleased I did so. Right out of the box I replaced the head with a Remo Ambassador coated head... and it sounded alright. I then played around with different tunings and was slightly frustrated at the snare buzz. It seemed as if it was having difficulty staying in tune so I decided to replace the cheap top hoop with the hoop from a 13" tom that I do not use... great idea! Totally changed the ringyness and buzz and helps it stay in tune better, way better rim shots, also. I've noticed that it still detunes quite quickly but now I know the ideal tension is at 85 (with DrumDial) so retuning it is not an issue. Overall, I'm super pleased with this drum and how it sounds now - definitely worth the $$!!! Can't wait to record with it!

AWESOME SNARE!!!!!

By Kai

from Fitchburg, WI

Comments about PDP Piccolo Steel Snare Drum:

I got this snare as my main snare w while ago because my other one was all old and stuff. To put in short words THIS IS AN AWESOME SNARE DRUM!! I honestly have no complaints. I got a new kit, and now this is my secondary snare drum. It works great as both a main and secondary snare. What else can I say? BEST SNARE EVER.
