Overview

Designed to be the flagship pedal of the PDP line, the all-new PDP Concept pedal from DW is fast, smooth and unlike any PDP pedal before it. The most obvious departure is its distinct look. With extended length XL brushed aluminum footboard and low-mass cam, its a solid performer that rivals much more expensive offerings. A DW-style spring rocker adjustment, beefy steel base plate and PDP beater are all standard on both single and double models.

I just received these in the mail today and got them settled in right away. Alongside its simple-yet-stylish (and "conceptual") design, these pedals are perfect for the professional on a budget. You get more than your money's worth right out of the box.

As sweet as they look, I was leary about the brushed steel, but I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of grip I could attain. They're wider than normal, so you can really dance on these guys and not worry about any slip. They are also quite responsive.

The only complaint I have is in regards to the beaters that come with them. They do NOT have a felt side, which is a personal preference of mine. Luckily I have a few other DW beaters that solved that issue.

Bottom line: You're paying for a DW product. Most drummers don't need much more incentive than that. Don't let the price fool you. I guarantee these pedals will rival anything on the market with a $300+ tag and you're getting the DW stamp. Try them for yourself and see!

Let me start off by saying I don't normally use double pedals. I have a double bass drum set up using pearl powershifter eliminator pedals that have no left me down at all. With that being said I picked up a pair of these to use for gigs or try outs where time and space were limited. Since I play a lot of faster and heavier styles of rock and metal I needed a decent double pedal that I could still do my patterns and what not on. I tried these out at guitar center and I really liked the feel of them. The long board setup is really a nice feature. They do have a very smooth feel to them and although a little heavy with the plastic beaters they were surprisingly agile. Needless to say I was pretty satisfied. Until I started really using them a lot. I ran into issues with things coming lose. The way the master pedal is set up leaves room for things to wiggle around a bit to much. There is in my opinion to much tension where the slave pedal connects to the master pedal in the little black bearing housing. The spring clamps also stripped out along with several of the screws. Over tightening to compensate for everything coming apart led to some of these issues. Also had issues with the heal plate bearing locking up and not allowing the foot board to move up and down when being used. Over all, I think PDP has a good concept here. Used better parts and give it a stronger durability test to make sure it can stand up under pressure. Aside from the faulty construction of these pedals I do like them, however in the future I will stick to the two tried and true pedals I have used and that's pearls and tama's pedals.

Comments about PDP Concept Double Pedal:

When I saw this pedal online on the DW website, I had to try them for myself. They looked fantastic and fit my size 12 foot no problem. You could feel a lot of control and with a single pedal alone. After some time I saved up to invest in the double pedal only to be taken aback to discover the drive shaft looks awful different from the photo. I switched it with a pearl eliminator shaft and functionality was 100% I also switched beaters with older DW soft feltbeaters I had for back up and I have been so far impressed with my purchase. The better control you have with kickdrum, the more impressed you will be.
If DW changes how the little I did not admire on this pedal, it will be a 10/10.

Good Intermediate Level Pedal

By Emerson

Comments about PDP Concept Double Pedal:

Picked up one of these pedals a couple days ago,my Iron Cobra power glide double has seen better days but I currently don't have the cash for the new speed cobra. I was pleasantly surprised by this pedal in store, love the long smooth foot boards and the hoop clamp. Downsides, the beaters are heavy, there is night and day difference now that i installed lighter beaters ( was still good before, but the plastic beaters were getting jammed on the drum head and somewhat melting it ). When I got it home I had to do a once over on all the allen screws as they were loose, not a big deal but minor annoyance. Didn't come with a bag so there's an extra 40$. Overall plays beautiful and is actually faster then my Iron Cobras and a DW5000 I used for a bit. Would be a 5/5 if there wasn't the added cost of new beaters and bag.

Worth triple the price!

Comments about PDP Concept Double Pedal:

A couple of weeks ago I was in the market for a new double pedal so I stopped by the local music store to try out a bunch of pedals. I was originally leaning toward the Axis Pedal since I play complex double bass patterns in a metal band. When I got to the store, I ended up trying the Axis, Trick, Iron Cobra and some others which I don't remember. None of them impressed me. Just on a whim I figured I may as well try the PDP Concept. I wasn't expecting much but it did look interesting. Hooked it up to the bass drum in the store and wow. No joke, it blew the other pedals out of the water. There was a specific, complex foot pattern which I was using to test all of the pedals. When I tried this PDP pedal, I was suddenly playing the pattern effortlessly and much faster than I've been able to in the past. I was sold. It's now been a couple of weeks that I've been using this thing and my playing has jumped up a notch. I went from having the fastest feet in my area to untouchable. It honestly does take less effort than the previous pedals I've owned and it just seems more precise with every stroke. This thing is so good that it's the first product that has made me take the time to write a review. I never ever write reviews but these guys deserve this! This review is my thank you to PDP.

Comments about PDP Concept Double Pedal:

Fast, smooth, easy to set-up and use. The long boards are great and there is simply nothing not to like about this pedal. The feel is as close to two separate pedals as I have found in a double pedal. Buy it, you will be happy.

Comments about PDP Concept Double Pedal:

Within playing it a few more days, the slave pedal broke. This really sucks because I had a lot of hope for this pedal. I would still buy a single pedal version of this, but if you want a decent double pedal for the same price, go with DW 2000's or the Pearl Demonator Chain Drive.

    Perfect

Comments about PDP Concept Double Pedal:

I love these pedals. When first putting this one my bass drum, I noticed it went on the hoop easier than any pedal I had previously used. This is also an awesome price for longboards. This makes slide and heel-toe really easy, especially with the smooth footboard. The only con I have to this is that the driveshaft only extends on one side, not two, but it still works for me.

    really great pedal

    By Brendan Pogue

    from cortlandt manor ny

Comments about PDP Concept Double Pedal:

i purchased this pedal 2 weeks ago and it is truly amazing. i have been drumming for 10 years and i have not played on a pedal as smooth as this one. as soon as you take it out of the box it takes a quick 5 minutes to setup and then it feels as if you've been using it for years. it does take a little breaking in but then again all pedals do. the longboard design defiantly helps to add a different feel, one that is a little different for me as I'm not used to using a long board pedal, but it didnt make much of a difference in performance. it is a strong sturdy and capable pedal, which i can't find any faults with.

    Slave Driveshaft NOT What's Pictured

    By Pete

    from Minneapolis, MN

    About Me Experienced

Comments about PDP Concept Double Pedal:

I have received two of these now and both times the slave pedal driveshaft received was not the part pictured. It looks like it came off some old gibraltar pedal, and it had a nice paint chip in it already. I honestly haven't even used the pedals yet because of this. MF had no problem sending me a new one the first time around, but I don't understand what's going on. Either change the picture or talk to DW/PDP and get it right.

That being said, I will continue to do business with MF as I have for years now. This has been the only issue I've ever had with them. If they can remedy my order and I actually get to use my new pedal, I would probably rate higher.
