Comments about PDP Platinum Lacquer Solid Maple Snare:
First off, this snare has a LOT of ringi-ness to it. It likes to product a note. This is partially because of the head that it has (remo sound controlled) but it's also because the inside is lacquer coated. The finish is good, and the hardware is good for what brand this is. Be prepared to buy some sort of muffling, because this thing emphasizes if you are out of tune at ALL (lots of overtones). Once you get it in tune, though, it sings. You can tune high for a nice crack, or tune low for a meaty thud, provided you dampen the tone out. In all, there are cheaper snares out there, but if you are buying a pdp plat. kit, which i recommend, you should buy this snare to compliment the rest of the kit.
