Comments about PDP by DW Ace Brass Snare Drum:

I bought the 6.5x14" PDP Ace and it is awesome. Not only does it look very sharp (I get lots of compliments and What snare is that? comments), but it sounds incredible! I replaced the stock batter with a Remo Emperor X and have it tuned medium tight. It gives a great bright smack with short, sweet overtones. It cuts throught the mix very well and fits very well sonically with my cymbals. I really love this snare and recommend it highly.

Not an "Ace"...snare doesn't deliver!!

Comments about PDP by DW Ace Brass Snare Drum:

I've actually bought, played, & returned both sizes on this snare. I 1st bought the 5 x 14 and it was to thin & tinny sounding. I've played a few drums similar to this before (Tama) & it definately doesn't compare in both sound & quality. I tried the 6.5 x 14 & I admit ... better. I upgraded to a diecast hoop (batter). The snare had a fuller/warmer sound ... but still didn't deliver in my opinion. The quality of these drums aren't great - 1.5mm hoops, really thin shells, the heads were losing tension, tension rods really grinding into the hoop ... recommend nylon washers, etc, etc. So ... in the end the 6.5 version sounded best, & the black plating looks good. However ... in my opinion, I don't believe either snare is worth the price ... not an "Ace". If you're interested in a brass snare then I recommend Ludwig's Black Magic. It's a few $$ more, but definately a drum that delivers.

Ace indeed

Comments about PDP by DW Ace Brass Snare Drum:

When I opened up the box to this snare I was very pleased by the cosmetics. As I tuned it up I noticed the lug was grinding, which i discovered was actually the tension screw. So I took the drum apart, cleaned it up, greased the tension screws, and now it plays beautifully. Extremely loud drum with lots of tone. You can use this snare drum for anything.

Comments about PDP by DW Ace Brass Snare Drum:

I've played drums regularly for over 50 years and currently have 11 acoustic snares. This is not DW or US Ludwig, BUT this is a heck of a lot for the price, and for me, the overall sound is extremely musical and it follows my lead. My '72 Ludwig Super Sensitive is always tuned low. The Ace has been almost as low and gives a thick response and really cranked for super crack and it delivers! I have the 5x14 and the only downside for some is that you need to change out top & btm heads to whatever you like, and I added a set of Blaster snare wires. They sell kits for this purpose. Get this while you can and be happy!
