  • Sounds amazing. Cheap hardware.

As reviewed by Dylan Eggert on 2/9/2013

You WILL NOT find a snare that sounds better than this one for $500 or under and this snare costs less than that. I have a $1500 TRUTH snare and this one sounds about 85% as good as that one (and completely different). The problem is the hardware which is to be expected when you buy a cheap snare. The lugs fall out of tune pretty fast and due to the wooden hoops (which make the snare sound great) you can't fit lug locks on it so be prepared to tune a lot if you're planning on giving this guy a lot of hard playing. But hands down, the biggest PROBLEM with this snare is the throw-off broke within the first months of owning it. By break I mean every time I hit a good rim shot it falls and turns into a tom. Now I have the misfortune of trying to find a throw-off that fits this snare, which might I add has not been an easy task. You would think that the DW ones would fit but the screws don't line up with the holes and any throw off that falls to the side instead of up and down, which is most, can't fit because of the giant wooden hoops. Once again, those wood hoops do wonders for the snare's tone but cause all kinds of cosmetical issues. For example, it is hard to find a snare stand to fit this snare. Out of the four I had laying around, only my crappiest one could fit it. But, if you're looking for a great snare for at a bargain price and you're willing to endure the annoying set backs, BUY THIS DRUM!!!

  • Drummer for EAB

As reviewed by GARTH NOYES on 9/24/2012

I do allot of live work and this snare gives me a rich/fat tone with minimal resonance reverberation. it takes allot of heavy use with little re-tuning.I have 6.5 snares that didnt give the depth this one has and cost much more. It also can be tuned up and gives a great jazz crack! And it looks great. You wont be sorry if you buy it.
